Question Haze/film on inside of windshield ?

I get this odd haze/film on the inside of the windshield about every other month or so. I have cleaned the windshield using windex and glass plus and this haze comes back. I can't figure a way to get rid of it. It always slowly comes back. It is very noticeable on days with high humidity. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, I do. Haven't yet figured out what to do about it either, just clean it every so often. I will be watching to see if anyone has a fix for this.

It may very well be the off gassing of the plastic of the dashboard. If you use a cleaner on your dashboard such as armor all etc can make it worse. Some cleaners are worse than others. I get it too. My Honda fit which is only a few months old does it even worse. USually the older they get the less they do it but there is a lot of dash in these trucks. Obviosuly if you smoke you get that as well and also just the dirtiness of the air in your area can contribute to it as well.

I smoke, so I get that even worse! A paper towel just barely damp with ammonia cleans the film off well, as do a few of the commercial glass cleaners, (I use "invisiable glass" from O'Reilly's) it takes some elbow grease tho so as not to leave streaks....

It's the PCB's leeching out of the plastic. I use that cheap glass cleaner from WalMart, it actually seems to repel the stuff better than the more expensive cleaners. Since I installed a dash mat about 6 months ago the problem has greatly lessened. A detailer told me to use a glass wax/polish/anti-fog, that's what he used with some success. He also told me that whatever I used I should do it with the windshield out of full sun, in the shade. Something about the full sun causing a chemical reaction so cleaners don't work right.

Keep in mind - a leaking heater core can also cause this....

That's what I was going to suggest was the heater core leaking! I know on my GTO everytime I turned on the heater or defrost in it is would haze up like a son of a gun until I replaced the core......now it doesn't do it.

You guys spend way to much money on glass cleaner. Get a small spray bottle, fill it almost full with tap water, Add 1 ounce of distilled vinegear. You can use it to clean tinted windows also. Cheap, works great, and no streaks if done properly.

Are you using Armor-all on the dash? It could be that it's evaporating and adhering to the glass.

I go to the dollar store and buy the glass handi-wipes. They stay in the console until ready for use.

I use some stuff from o'reilly's called invisible glass or something like that, it comes with a yellow top. That and newspaper gets rid of the film. I get it on my truck as well and best I can figure is that it's just trash in the air that gets stuck to the glass.

I have had this happen to me. I quit using it, and it stopped. Just my .02.

Um, you guys ever think of moving your spit cup offa the dashboard? Makes a nasty 'haze' when ya miss.

Amonia, water and rubbing alcohol (mixed) is what I use. And instead of paper towels I use old newspaper. No streaks or lint residue.

Very true. Even the slightest pinhole can cause sticky, glycerin steam to collect up there.

I can't imagine that after 7 years there is anything coming out of or off of the plastic? I never had that problem with my 01.

Now my wifes car, ewww! Smokers glass is NASTY!
