Hay Shortage???
Guys gotta question..
my hay supplier sold me out, I had 60 1100Lb round bales of Brome reserved and he sold it out from under me
Now I am scrambling around trying to find hay and having a hard time finding any ..
the little I have been able to find is going for 50-60 dollars a bale, and I had been paying $25 per bale for 1100#ers....
is that what everyone else is paying?????????????

I know what you mean. I don't have many cows so I'm not a big time buyer. The guy I had bought from for years informed me this week that he didn't have any hay left for me this year. He had sold it by the semi loads somewhere South. I had to buy some small square bales to get by this week, cost me $4.00 a bale for mixed grass/alfafa 4th cutting! I had been buying 1200lb bales of 2nd & 1st cuttings for $30.00 a bale.

Here in Orygun I have been getting grass hay at the stack for some of my customers for 160 bucks a ton for right around 100lb bales my cost not including delivery. That figures out to be like 6-7 bucks a bale alfalfa i have been getting for 238 a ton for 120lb bales which is around 14-15 bucks a bale. I don't know if that helps you out Chris cause your looking for big bales but that least give you a ball park.

Chrisreyn,
How much hay you needing? Not sure what the price will be now, but I can ask around. I'm 23 miles east of Ottawa and can check with guys down around Garnett also.
Hay crop price this year is like oil prices.... they just keep going up. There was a thread on here six weeks or so back about hay. I bought 90 bales of year old brome at $10 a bale. It was wrapped tight and this guy didn't stack them tight end to end. He leaves about 1' between the ends for less soilage. When I moved them I had to turn in the relief valve on my cylinder controls to lift them off the trailer with my little 730 Case. I didn't take any to town to weigh, but I'd guess 1400-1500#!
Might have to go to a couple of auctions and then find the sellers and make a deal with them for any hay they didn't bring in that day.
PM me if you like. len
