Had a minor ATV accident last weekend...

But I'm ok. Just bruised up really bad. Right butt cheek looks like a butt implant job gone wrong, and a very nice sunset of greens, purple, blue and black. I don't bruise very easily, aside from surgeries that were pretty rough, I don't remember the last time I had a bruise on me.

Anyway, came over a hill on my 300ex in 5th... wasn't trying to jump the hill hard, but I got air with the front tires and the back came around on me... I don't have a pic of the accident, but I have pics until about a half second before I ate crap.

When the back tires caught traction again, it just tossed me off the back, I landed squarely on my hind parts and back. Like any responsible adult, I had plenty of PPE on, but wish I had more.

A week later, I'm just about able to move around normally. I'm just lucky I didn't break anything. :)

Just sharing the adventures of madhat. :D

Mad,
You are lucky a cactus or yucca plant didn't give you a prostate exam!!!
I used to make fun choices. Once I hit 40, the healing time from fun began to lengthen dramatically. Now, in my mid 40's, I am kind of a wuss.....

madhat 05-19-2012 09:56 PM

It's funny, not many cactus here in Yuma... it's too hot.

It was on a trail, so aside from being packed dirt, it was clear.

Yeah, healing time is slowing up, huh? hahaha

DW and I bought a 400cc Suzuki Eiger last fall. I have had fun bombing around in the fields with it but I have only had it in 5th gear once. I wear a helmet but I don't necessarily know where every divot or badger hole is in our fields. I assume if I roll it out of a badger hole at 15 mph I will do way better than the same stunt at 40 mph.

Yeah, that's no kidding. That crap happened so fast I was on the ground before I knew I was off the bike.

I strongly suggest getting a chest protector. It saved my upper back from a lot of road rash. It is not uncomfortable at all to wear, either.

If I borrow one of my wife's underwire support garments (decided to keep it G rated on a family site), dos that count? Chaikwa said that is what he does.

If I borrowed one of my wife's, it would be like one of those parachute go carts... :O

Gunny, glad to hear you didn't get too banged up.

Hey TG, I bet it was difficult for you to learn how to balance that 4 wheeler, wasn't it? [whistle]

Insert witty and intelligent dig at Chaikwa <here>. It is too early in the morning here for me to be witty and intelligent.

Glad you are OK. When I went to a 3 wheeler back when, I realized you lose some options when it comes to ditching them like at the top of a steep hill. You can lay over a bike, but the multi wheelers topple.

Now I ride the farmer/hunting style 4 wheelers, but not those high strung ones like you have there!

I agree, the healing slows way down after 40 and 25 years of construction work!!

Now get back on that thing!! Ha ha.

Boy, I sure do miss the high deserts...:(

madhat 05-20-2012 11:24 AM

I'm gonna give it another week before I get back on... but I wanna try that hill again.

I need more practice, it's loads of fun.

Shovelhead 05-20-2012 11:33 AM

I see the problem........
You had twice the number of wheels that were needed. [dummy]

I've was high-side 'body-slammed' by a Honda XR350 in my younger days (mid 30s)....... cracked ribs, sore in places I didn't know I had.
Took a loooong time to heal......... learned to slow down.

Hope you're feeling better soon.
Margaritas help with the soreness. ;)

Be careful out there, lost my best friend to motocross several years back. Some accidents are unforgiving. Have fun but take care!

Mad,

A friendly reminded that in your golder years you might want to invest in a "Caged" fun machine..
