I liked what AlpineRAM said about Austria...that kinda control would be ok. I think we would have a big problem if Americans had to turn in their guns...

I agree with everyone. There is no way that anything positive can come from banning guns. It's bad enough living here in Maryland with all the stupid trigger lock laws. If a handgun is manufactured after 2003, it can't be sold here unless it has an INTEGRATED trigger lock. So far there are only a few manufacturer's doing this. I'm glad I got mine when I did......here's a few samples from my collection:

We have actually not been invaded by other countries in the past because they think we all have guns and are not afraid of using them. I do not own a gun but everyone has a right to protect themselves and their families. This may require the use of deadly force and that is a decision that the burgular made when they broke into your house. I have seen some businesses around here that have signs on them that I really enjoy.
They read; "Some of the openings of this house are protected by a shotgun that is tied to the window. Others are unprotected. Choose one."

Actually, a better Rule #1 is don't be there.

Pumpdaddy, I don't like any sort of ballistic fingerprinting or registry. If the govt. has a list of guns and people, then they know where to look when it's time to disarm the populace. I try to buy used guns now that the manufacturers have to provide a casing. BTW, my collection is in my member gallery. If Bush loses in November, the collection will probably triple in a week.

Very good point.....but a handgun (or any other gun) also puts you on a level playing field if you're forced to defend yourself against someone who DOES have a gun....or other deadly weapon.

CHL holder here as well.

I must admit I'm a gun owner too
Over here the tries to disarm people were aborted for democratically expressed will of the people to stay armed.

........from my cold dead fingers really fits here... Stated in my will which is 100% legal and binding, when my number is up I'll go to the dirt with my .44 mag Ruger SBH, w/10.5" bbl stated by serail #, loaded with 6 cartridges (300gr XTP's). Started it to be a PITA while in the service, made them legal bean counters do all the legwork, found it to be binding in all 50 states so it shall always remain.

Never know what I'll meet up with on the other side, but I'll be dipped if i won't be ready, betcha that fella will think twice before sticking me with the pitchfork

You can bet that this country is safe from any kind of direct invasion because they'd incur so many casualties from the "Civil Militia" that we'd form. They say history repeats itself...so sometime down the road some crazy country is going to think about attacking the US. In a way, a certain religous sect has invaded us and continues to use any weaknesses against us--Al-Qaida. Too bad they're too chicken to show their faces over here!

Yeah any invader would have the largest guerilla war in the history of warfare on their hands.

Never say never but an invasion is almost impossible. It could happen from Mexico (I'm talking armed invasion here) or Canada but that would be turned back by the Military without any problem.

And the country's just too big for a sea based invasion.

The biggest threat would come if the Union ever split up. Different states would form alliances and border skirmishes would happen between other states.

It would be a huge confusing mess to say the least.

And I believe every states has nukes, which makes it even worse. You'd have 50 nuclear powers all bunched up against each other.

Balkinization (sp?) doesn't work.

The Feds do serve a purpose in keeping all the states stitched together, but that's about it IMO.

Neither did the founding fathers; a wise perspective indeed. The Bible also tells us to "have faith in no man, only The Lord". Simple enough concept.
