Green Diesel Fuel?
Green Diesel Fuel?
I just went to a truck stop where many 18 wheelers get their fuel. I filled up and the fuel was green. I thought it was my sunglasses, but after I took them off it was still green.

Is this green fuel OK for my truck?

I had a problem with algae, but took care of it and am still taking care of it.

Re:Green Diesel Fuel?
It's good fuel. If you want to, put some fuel conditioner in there just to be safe. I'm wondering how your watching the fuel go in your truck? On mine, I stick the nozzle all the way and can't see the fuel.

I've read from different sources, of the rather substantial differences in diesel fuels - from significantly varying cetane ratings, to lubricity - and we won't even BOTHER with percentages of contamination... :
:
SO, when we read stuff like above - fuel that's GREEN here, AMBER there - RED somewhere else, it all sorta makes ya wonder what ELSE might be different in those fuels we MIGHT not appreciate, if we only knew about it...

Well, I now have an auxilliary tank in the bed, and between that tank and the utility pump that transfers fuel to the main tank is a Russell fuel filter, with a clear glass Pyrex housing around the nylon screen. So I can see the fuel just fine in direct sunlight. I've filled up at Pilots, Exxons, Amocos, Flying J's, and Shells in five different states now, at the auto diesel and the truck islands. I've *never* seen #2 as anything but pale amber, just like your basic (weak) Bud-in-a-can.

Never seen green or even anything that could be mistaken as a greenish tint. Nor brown, red, blue, purple, lime, orange, pineapple, or mango.

He ain't crazy. I've seen green also. As a matter of fact, I filled the truck and tractor both up the other day at my neighbors shop. I asked about the greenish tint and he has the oil company to add a few things when they bring fuel out.
From what I understand, basic #2 is going to be a stale pale ale or greenish amber(is that a color?). Color variation is caused by the brand of additives. I should be getting my bulk tank set up in a few weeks. I've got a meeting with the sales guy at the oil company next week and hopefully I can get some info on fuel differences and additives.
OBTW, gave just under a buck a gallon for the fuel (wholesale). Minimum delevery is 200 gal.
As to the red fuel, what we're seeing around here is bright red. Substitute the green in Prell shampoo with red. Can't miss it.
[/quote]

The Texaco station where we used to fill up our lumber yard trucks had green diesel. Heck....it almost looked like antifreeze.
