Got a kegerator, now I have a few questions...
Evenin, DTR.
I'm looking for some knowledgeable alcoholics, er, I mean, connoisseurs...
I recently got a full sized kegerator (wife got it for my coming home present
) and it's still a little foamy. The keg has been refrigerated for a full day since I picked it up from the store, I only had it in warm temps for 10-15 minutes. I dialed the CO2 pressure down to 9psi, and bled the pressure off the tap, that helped a little, but I still am getting a little too much head. (keep your mind out of the gutter
) I kind of think that I know how to pour beer, I've done it with CO2 pressurized beer plenty of times before, not to mention hand pumped and bottles and cans, so I don't think it's the guy pouring the beer.
The keg is at 37*, and has been in there since three yesterday afternoon. The beer tastes fine, just a tiny bit flat once the head dies down.
???
Second... I have the kegerator out in the shed, with the CO2 bottle in the outside temps... mid 80's. I was planning on drilling a hole in my other fridge and keeping it in there, but do I really need to do that?
TIA!
mad

How are the temperature of the tap and of the lines? you might try packing the tap in ice and try that. (pour a cold beer into a hot glass)
I dont think your running enough CO2 to effect the temperature of the keg.

Everything is chilled except the tower, and it's insulated.
I just went out and poured a few, it's a little better with less pressure. The first 2 sucked (I poured 4), but the last two were good.
Maybe it is the tower and spout being warm. I really did not want to have to bring it inside. Maybe I should turn the AC on it...

Way back when I had mine.......(24yr ago).... I ran the pressure at 3 psi.
No matter what I did the first couple each use were foamy. I think it is what is in the tube having a chance to seperate. You need to drink them faster, like at the rate a bar sells draft
I ended up cutting out any extra tube that I could, which helped to keep the foaming to the first 2 mugs.
Frosted mugs will help a bit.......
Oh yea. Mine was a old refridgerator, with the handle in the door and the co2 in the cold with the keg. All the plumbing stayed cold as by the condensation on the tap handle
Bud products foamed most for me. Coors was better but I had to drive to Colorado to get them. Olympia was the least of the foamers

Yeah, the book says not to go below 34, I think. The cooler only goes down to 36.
Actually, it's getting better now that I backed down the pressure. I'm around 9psi, and it's doing pretty good.

The wife was a former B/Tender and said the first ones were all foamy. Just a keg change would get her two-four glasses very foamy. CO2 change would get her more. I know you're not running the neighborhood bar but it may help to push a few out more like a bar would. HTH.
