Shaders_24v, my son, is having computer problems, but he want me to chime in for him. He's on the road a lot, and said it's a toss-up between a guy with a bow saw hacking the head off a big buck with a huge rack that had been struck, or a concrete parking barrier laying across one of the lanes on the interstate. Wow, that's an encounter!

The best one I ever saw was on 59 North and 610 (Houston) going over a hill (ok there arn't really any hills in Houston, but the freeways go over the cross roads) I'm in the left lane, and there is about a 20ft fiberglass runabout on the left shoulder, (concrete shoulder with a guard rail just wide enough for a boat). No trailer just the boat and no one around!

Hoss, I don't know who it was that told me that, but I've learned over the years to listen. Generally with good results.

Let's see

#1 When I just turned 16 I was driving the van with our family going on vacation to New Orleans. We were headed west on I-10 and had just crossed into Louisiana (after coming down the steep bridge). Here I see an old Caddy towing a little two wheel camper trailer. The trailer is swinging side to side and bouncing from one wheel to another in the outside lane. The traffic is working past him one at a time whenever the trailer swings right. When we go past, my Dad looks over and see and old guy with both hands on the wheel staring straight ahead....seemingly oblivious what was going on with his trailer.

#2 In Austin, on the Ben White overpass of 360, I saw a Ford Ranger parked on the shoulder. There is a boxspring in the bed of the truck propped up over the cab. The driver is staring over the barrier at the edge the road down to the ground. Gee...I wonder if his mattress was OK.

#3 Two guys show up at the furniture store warehouse the other night to pick up two rooms of furniture with a mini-van. When I left, they had a large flat box, a boxspring and a mattress (queen size) on top of the minivan....being secured with "heavy-duty" twine. Didn't see it on the freeway, but I can just imagine how the trip went. The first wrap of twine was about halfway back on the mattress.

One of th funniest things I've seen is a station wagon with a mattress & boxspring on top of it with nothing to secure it but four arms hanging out of the windows, even the driver. I said to myself now what is gonna happen when the wind gets underneath the thing and one of the guys says well, i'm not lettin go
At the same warehouse, another guy was telling me he saw a car going down the road with a mattress on the roof. It had one rope across the lower half, and a guy laying on top to hold it down. He was laying on his back gripping the edges of the mattress. Apparently the driver started going a little fast and it turned into an "ejector mattress", pitching the guy into the middle of the freeway. Not sure who thought this was a good idea.

Hey- I work with that guy! Seriously, one of the guys I work with cuts the head off any road-killed buck he sees - he's done it at least 4 times I know of.

During highway construction in front of my house while I was in the yard, a college kid in a Toyota Corolla dropped a wheel off the right shoulder into fresh mud. He over-corrected and drove across the opposite lane and did the same over correction turning his car over on the passenger roof in the highway. While my wife called 9-1-1, I ran to his aid. Spotting me as he climbed out, he barked, "Help me quick! Grab-a-hold and help me flip it back over or my daddy's gonna kill me."

One night, we had a couple drunks pulling the boat home from a fishing trip decide to make a preliminary run on the new freeway. Found out the hardway they hadn't installed the overpasses yet. Truck was a dirt-dart with outboard enima.

Florida - saw a car on the side of the highway full of holes and no windows. At least 50 rounds in that vehicle. Came back by that afternoon and the car was gone. I guess the Florida PD didn't want all of the tourists to see that one - JKE

Gets 'em stuffed and mounted. There's a cartoon that his brother drew of him in his den with deer heads on the wall. All the deer heads are mounted on road signs instead of wood plaques.

Commatoze-I'd bet money it was Jay your son saw. There can't be that many guys who do that.

About 15 years ago, when I lived in Louisiana, the family and I were headed home to Illinois for the Holidays (Christmas). We were going thru Jackson, MS on I-55N at around 6AM it was just getting light, I would have had my headlights off but it was a little foggy (just patches). All of a sudden I see a man rollerblading backwards down the middle of the Interstate. He was going North but facing traffic. I zipped by him then looked over at my wife to see if she was awake and she said"Yeah, I saw him too". This was before we had a cell phone or we would have called 911.

This wasen't on the freeway, but a couple of years ago I was stopped at a light in town and I saw a guy on a motorcycle to my right stopping for the light his way. He was all decked out for the part. Ape hanger handle bars, do rag, t-shirt under a leather vest, leather pants. As I was starting out from the light I got a good look at what he was wearing on his feet, red and white BOWLING SHOES! I was laughing so hard I almost ran up on the curb.
