Good 7.3 Powerstroke forum

Well guys, I have gone back to work for my old company and am back in the 97 F-350 flatbed we bought new.

At 189K and about 50 past drivers its pretty hagard.

Needs a clutch and trans job.

The old 7.3 starts kinda hard but still pulls like a 444 c.i. ought to!

Any good PS sites out there I can get some good tips from?

Please don't beat up on Ford here, I really don't care about brand wars/opinions, in fact, she may have weathered the past 12 years better than me! ha ha!

Thanks again, Kurt

Not sure of good sites but I can tell you that a friend of mine just turned 1.3 million kilometers on his 7.3 with original injectors. His big ticket repairs were the transmission and clutch, twice. He just did the trans and clutch last month and went with a rebuilt trans and southbend.

I've always been impressed with the 7.3.
Ran a 6.9 for a couple years myself. Slow and steady. LOL

Another friend of mine just turned 600,000 kilometers on his 6.7 Ford and had to replace the lift pump once early one as well as temp/egt probes a couple of times and the DEF heater last winter.

The engines in between these had a lot more trouble but the Cummins hasn't been stellar every year either.

7.3 is a great motor, I wouldnt deny that my friend, my work truck is a 02 with a 7.3, 300k miles and it still does its job well with 10k lbs to lug around. It still gets better mpg than my other 13' 6.7 PS lease truck, which only gets 11mpg on a good day.

I have a buddy thats a member on :

Lotsa info from those sites!

Found a bad up pipe gasket leaking exhaust out pre turbo, tremendous power robber!!

New Thermostat and wiper blades and its driveable again.

Looked all over the internet for a seat and ended up finding an almost brand new one at the Tow truck place down the street. They took it out of a 94 and replaced it with a vinyl one so it would stay cleaner when the truck was a year old and has been sitting in the rafters at their shop ever since. $150 and its in my truck now!!

Glow plugs next...
