I love my HK usp 45. I have big hands and Glocks have never felt comfortable to me. And I prefer to have a decock and manual saftey. I have never been a big fan of the pull and shoot ease of the glock, espically if there is the slightest chance a kid will ever be near it. Personally I dont keep one up the pipe just cause the little ones cant work the slide.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but I HOPE you're relying on something besides "the little ones can't work the slide" to keep your children protected from shooting themselves or someone else. If not, you've got a disaster just waiting to happen right there in your own home. The first time you find out that they CAN work the slide may be the last time you ever see them alive.

Furthermore, a gun that doesn't have a round chambered is nothing more than a club when you really need it...and not a very good one at that. What makes you think you're going to have time to chamber a round?

Just food for thought...

If it's full size and .40 caliber then it's the G22. That's what I carry. Great gun. The G27 is the subcompact .40 and the G23 is the medium sized (compact) .40.

I have G22's. If anyone is selling a new grip style G23, let me know.

The 11 year old knows how to shoot it, the six year old knows to stay clear of it. The four year old is the one that cant work it if he gets ahold of it. The dog should give me enough warning to chamber a round

I carry it with a round in the chamber. I have a round in the chamber all the time. At night, I keep it in my holster, because the holster covers the trigger.

I personally carry a Kimber Supermatch. I fell in love with Kimbers by shooting a "low end" $600 version and it shot better than my match .45 issued by the Coast Guard. I have shot H&K's hand guns, several versions of the mp-5, G-3's and others. I have shot several glocks, springfields, S&W, Rugers, Tarus, BFR, Colt, Thompson, and several other makes and models. I really feel there is no comparison between the H&K and the Glock. The H&K is so well made and shoots very smoothly. The Glock is a good gun, but IMO, they don't shoot well without some modifications. This is only my opinion. I don't mean to offend anyone. I was a compeitive shooter before I had kids, and will get back into it very soon. If you want to ask anything about guns, just PM me. I am a deticated rifle shooter, but as Quigley said about the hand gun, "I never said I didn't know how to use one, I just don't have much use for one".
