Getting into it for the first time

Hi folks, I just got my first Cummins ever yesterday. Was looking for a while, wanted a truck to go hunting, and for general "trucky" business. I liked the Rams better than Fords and Chevies in the first place, not that those are bad or anything. So I tried the '98 2500 and a '04 F350 yesterday, both stick shifts, and liked the white Ram so much I felt it calling me not to leave the dealer lot when I got out of it. So... I couldn't, and took him home with me.
Having a good time driving it around today. Wish I had done it earlier! Now I have tons to learn about him and get some most needed accessories, such as tow straps, chains and a highlift jack... The list goes on...
My official story for the significant other is this. She wanted some kitchen mods, including a new gas range. So, I bought the truck yesterday, brought it home and said "Honey, I had to get this so I can bring your new gas range home!". She sighed, turned to the kids and said "Hey kids. Your crazy dad just bought a pickup truck". The kids were so incredibly happy. I don't think the gas range would excite them nearly as much Naturally, we all went for a ride immediately, and even in the darkness of the evening I could see a grin on my wife's face. I said, "What's that big smile there, honey?", and she goes "Well, you have always known that I like tall vehicles!" So I guess I am forgiven.
I think I will be reading this forum a lot learning the tricks. For one, the dimming dash/headlights on startup was the one I have already learned that saved me some electrical diagnostic effort! This one alarmed me this morning.

Welcome to the site and the wonderful world of the Cummins powered Ram!

I'll give ya fair warning,,,,,, some of these folks don't consider these to be "Just Trucks",,,,, some of them consider them "Heavy-Duty Race Vehicles" among other descriptions!

BEWARE !! When I got my first CTD my wife drove it the next day. After that everytime she went somewhere she took my truck and left her car for me to take to work. Eventually it became her truck. Now she has her very own 05' CTD !!! and a big sticker on it that says " NO, This is Not My Husbands Truck "

My advice would be that if you want to drive YOUR truck don't let the misses drive it at all or it will soon be HER TRUCK !!!

Welcome! Drop by the breakroom and have a coffee on me!

Great buncha guys here, all ya gotta do is ASK, and you'll have an answer within a minute. Totally amazing at the wealth of knowledge these people are willing to share.

As you can see by my signature I had to get a second truck or I'd never get to drive mine.

Ok, now wait a minute. I've heard a female address a group of females with the phrase "you guys" so I'm thinking that in this instance, it must be a proper term to use and can be no way construed to be exclusive of female members of this board.

chaikwa, I got your back buddy.

From another thread: "Load it like a boxcar, drive it like a racecar"

I laugh because I know a guy just like this. It seems to be a common theme in here too.

Congrats on the first oiler Paul. I'm enjoying my first as well.

this is why my last truck had a busted synchro in third gear. that had alot to do with a bad week at work and a kid in a rice burner. and a little to do with the fact I "forgot to" let off the foot feed to speed shift into 3rd(oops )
