you tell 'em Leggus Maxiumus! back at ya on the needle pokes and vehicle hiccups too.

to carry on the theme of this week's breakroom, I have figured out why our illustrious janitor/history Maker has itchy tongue:

foot in mouth disease perhaps.....you know those polite Massachusetts boyz.
Listerine in his honor.

if you read- POST! love to hear what you are up to doing! witness protection for those that need it.

NE - what do you use as a spray for thistle? One of the rules I got taught is amines in August and esther in September (2,4-D in both cases).
We use Hired Hand for all thistles, it's 2,4-d and Tordon (picloram).
Once it gets dry and the plants are stressed we'll add a surfactant so it sticks better and add more 2,4-d.
To kill some fire weeds this summer I had a quart of hired hand, 2 quarts 2,4-d, quart roundup, quart Rifle (dicamba) and surfactant plus water in a 15 gallon sprayer. Trouble is with that concentration of 2,4-d, I have to be really careful which way the wind is blowing or it makes me nauseous.
As you know Canadian thistle expands through seeds and through the roots, so you need to get the roots killed, too, or it comes back up. Though I have found a good spraying with Hired Hand in spring, with a follow-up a couple weeks later, really does a number on it. Checking on the patch and spraying any plants that come up can be effective, if you can make the root expend all it's energy trying to get plants up for a couple years, that will kill it, too. Round-up will also kill the root.

A pasture we picked up last winter needs sprayed again, the muskthistle was real bad. Once we got rain it came back up, tempted to mix some Hired Hand and Round-up and go spray the stuff again, if I can find the time.

There was something else I thought of but can't remember what it was. Darn stayin up til 3AM anyway.

I have noticed that using a sprayer, you will get the tops of a thistle, but not kill it as the lower part doesn't get any chemical. You need to use a spot sprayer and get the whole plant soaked to get muskthistles good and dead. Most of what we call muskthistle is actually plumeless thistle, also invasive, so we are required to attempt to control it as well.

Oh yeah, sprayer dye. Guess it's $25 a quart, but have found it's a real time- and chemical-saver. Before we started using it last year, we were always re-spraying a lot of ground. And use enough. Had trouble getting the theory through that using an extra half ounce wastes a half ounce, but using a half ounce too little wastes all of it.

Might have to rig up something to lay the plant over a little to promote coverage.

Morning all, time to get ready for church but I wanted to check in on y'all first. Have a great day, hope your team won yesterday.

Mornin, mornin...

Scotty, I got your text the other day while I was in the thick of it... then it disappeared down the black hole of texts... I'll get back to you, buddy. Sorry about that.

Heidi, I was just thinking about ya this morning... wondering how you were. Hope all is well!

That's good advice on almost anything.

Mornin, Rick.

Hope all is well. Been pretty busy for a while, this was the first weekend we didn't have all kinds of stuff going on.

What a beautiful fall morning here today.
Itchy tongue comes from using (censored) for rinsing out the bad side effects One gets from (censored). I've experienced that after antibody LEGG CLEANSING.

Speaking of Scottkwa, send me a pm or Post on here what your schedule is like this week as I expect to be in Indiana and may have to be there for an extra day.

The pin cushion Achilles is showing some mercy this a.m. I get to aggravate it some spreading topsoil.

Mark, whenever you can is fine.

Waxed and polished up my Leggs before I came into the room.....wow incredible what I can see with all that light reflecting off of them into the dark corners

Had to put a new cable guide wheel on the garage door this morning, amazing how much smoother it closes when it isn't trying to lock up on one side will pick up another one for the other side as I am certain it isn't far behind.

Jumped two nice bucks at my mineral block this morning, one was a young 6 or 8 point..the other was MUCH larger but took off before I could count his antlers....nice to know I will get my buck this year without leaving the yard

But then again I have lived here since 93 and have let them all go by here and hunted elsewhere...kind of a live and let live vibe on the mountain unless you are up to no good. The difference this year is I have a Grandson who will make his hunting debut this year, would feel better about him being within the safety zone instead of in the woods full of nuts.

Everyone be safe and enjoy to enjoy

Good morning all y'all. Just a real quick driveby for now. DW and I are on our way out the door to go pick apples. Those will turn into apple sauce, Mennonite apple butter and aa family favorite - apple jelly.

Play safe everyone, keep your head up and your stick on the ice.

Evening gang. Had an emergency call in this morning at work. They just positively, absolutely had at have an aircraft up on the North Slope by noon or else heads will roll. As I drove into work at 5 AM watching the freezing rain stick to my windshield I could only shake my head. The only reason they called me in was to do a mandatory heater inspection someone forgot to do.
The heater was fine and no one showed up as the rain started to turn to snow. My time card has 5 hours of OT, 2 of which are for commute time, PLUS I added my mileage. Call me in on my day off and the let the plane sit, will ya. Huh, I'll show them.

Good evening all ya'll. It is good to see people posting and even better to see that chaos and mayhem in all of our lives continues unabated. We had such awesome weather today that I couldn't allow myself to sit inside and use a computer. It is only a few weeks until frost, cold and snow get here. Apple picking this morning was awesome. We got darn near every apple off the tree (about 30lbs) in 1 hour. We spent more time talking to our friends whose farm we were at than we did picking. Poor Louie (farmer whose place I was at), it is right in the middle of harvest time and his hired guy managed to use the combine to find an 8ft steel bar in a field they were custom harvesting. Apparently combines don't like trying to thresh steel bars - lots of internal damage. A rental combine arrives in the morning and Louie's son is spending today tearing the combine apart to get all the broken stuff out. He will be on the phone with the parts guy when the shop opens in the morning with the list of replacement parts he needs. I sure hope the John Deere dealer keeps lots of parts in stock during harvest season.

Our garden getting really close to being shut down for the year. The pea fence came down today. All that is left is a few green bean plants, a few squash plants and two big cucumber vines.

Now it is time to kick back and enjoy the beautiful autumn evening. We are having Paula Deen's southern fried chicken recipe and sweet potato fries for supper. Oh yeah, and there might be a nice glass of wine in my future. The sun sets at 7:45 here tonight but we will make sure we enjoy the last few hours of sunshine and the watch the sun set behind the Rocky Mountains.

I hope everyone had a happy day (Cougar - I think you win the prize for the worst day).

I have sure seen my share of them.....almost got into a fight when a guy decided to start target practice mid day in the same direction as my buddy's tree stand...Luckily he backed off when I went after him.
