generator add on

I imagine this subject has been broached before. I saw a PSD utility vehicle the other day-w-a built in A/C generator for running tools. Is this something some of the Dodge CTD owners can enlighten me on? I live in "hurricane alley" and it would seem like a walk in the park for a CTD to run a generator???

I have a 6.5 Onan gen on the flatbed of my truck. When I'm out boondocking or working at a job site, it's invaluable.

The PSD has an option for running a PTO off of the transfer case. You can also get an idle control box so you can run your PTO at a certain speed. Or you can just do it the easy way and get a 1000 watt inverter that hooks up to your batteries and get a PVC pipe cut to a certain length so you can stick it between the throttle and your seat to set the high idle.

Engine compartment or bed-mounted?

If engine compartment then you might want to look at add-on engine compartment welder (w/o welder) info since, I believe, they're also capable of powering AC gear. Basically, just adding another alternator or replacing the existing alternator with a 'souped' up version. Or, as an alternative, an inverter?

Good luck.

I see 3000 watt inverters for sale at most of the big truck stops all the time.

You could always go that route.

3000 watts is a respectable amount of power.

I would think that must be one wicked draw on your alternator though.

I'd like to use my truck to produce AC power when needed as opposed to an inverter. I know someone has done this on here or TDR.

It makes more sense then having a back up generator for my needs.
we had four major power failures in the past 6 months.
One was for 4 days at the shop. All I'd have to do and drive out there, run a cable to the shop power and presto amundo I got power. Maybe?

The NV 5600 has a cover on both sides but I am not sure why I should go pto. Electric is not my strong point ever since I stuffed a pair of tweezers into an outlet when I was 6.
