Gasser question

Aight i know this is a diesel board BUT we have alot of intellengent people on here...For the most part...JUST KIDDIN!!!!

Me and my dad are thinkin about puttin a roush blower on his new truck...04.5 F150 5.4L 4wd SC. My question is:

1. Will this blower really not affect factory warrenty. They say it wont because its a ROUSH but how true is it.

2. It says HASSLE FREE? True or no?

3. Never worked with a supercharger of any sort just turbos so Do i need to let the motor cool like i do with a turbos?

4. I already bought him a Hypertech programer...Can i still use it?

5. Which grade gas?

Brake questions:
we're running 325/60/18 nitto terra grabblers

1. What kind of rotors would yall recommend but i dont wanna spend to much?

2. What about calipers?

Sorry for the questions my dad just wanted to ask yall and see what yall think...>

Thanks

Kracker,

Not sure on the blower, but I could ask my uncle. He's got one on his old 5L Mustang. As for the brakes what's too much? I've got EGR's on the Dodge and the total for front rotors, calipers, SS lines, larger rear cylinders and pads/shoes was in the $1300 neighborhood. If EGR produces a set for the F150 I would recommend them. They're fantastic.

Not that no one cares, I would respond but do not know the answers to what you ask.

Well for the brakes...I found some PowerSlots for $79 a rotor but those are only slotted. With the 325/60/18 terra grabblers with HELO rims they become pretty heavy.

Sean, You posted this question, then less than 3 hours later expected an answer, and even suggested you got no answer because possibly nobody cares?

This is Easter Sunday, I realize that may or may not mean anything to you one way or the other, thats OK not making a moral judgement here. What I am saying is that it is a Holiday that most families spend some or a lot of time together on.

Not everybody is spending the entire day here waiting to provide on the spot answers, and frankly when you expect a reply so quickly or make a comment like that one, many guys will choose not to answer at all.

Relax, post a question and when somebody feels they have some information that may help you, they will post an answer. You can't expect an instant answer whether it is a Holiday or not

Ok, I'll take a stab at it the engine stuff.

1. If the Roush SC is Ford factory approved then it shouldn't void the warranty. But Ford is getting stingy with the warranty claims so be careful.

2. Don't know. If you and your dad is mechanically inclined it wouldn't be much of a problem. Some minor fitting maybe required.

3. No, don't need to let the SC cool down like a turbo charger. The SC is engine driven, not exhaust driven like the turbo.

4. Should be able to send it back to Hypertech to have a custom program made for the mods done to the engine. But I would think Roush should have a custom program available with the SC kit.

5. Most likely premium fuel.

Also don't forget about headers and exhaust since the SC will be cramming in more air.

Sorry Lary

Thanks Mikey...
I figured i wouldnt have to let it cool down...Wanted to make sure. I have helped rebuild motors before so i take it putting a SC on should be too difficult. I have already done full exhaust..Headers to tips. Also I have another question..How much boost will a stock 5.4L handle? Out of the box it produces 6psi. What do you think it can handle?

Sean,
I don't know. Maybe one of the Ford Lightning forums can answer that question. But I do know on the 5.4L the sparkplug threads in the head is very weak. Sparkplugs are known to spit out on stock Lightnings. Hopefully Ford has corrected this issue.

If you have a warrenty issue I bet ford will use it as a non factory part IE.. racing part and find a way to void your warr. ford is doing all it can not to pay out .there hands are full with 6.0 warrenties and 3 million other recalls. call ford and get it in writing

I'm pretty sure if your truck spits out a transmission or rear end, or even blows up an engine, Ford will look at the truck and tell you to get lost. The truck will be making 20% or so more horsepower than Ford intended it to, and they will look at it the same as Dodge does if we put a set of injectors or a chip in one of our diesels.

The thing is though is that you didn't buy the truck directly through ford with the blower already installed. If that was the case, you would be cool. Your gonna have to run premium to avoid detonation. I wouldn't run much over the factory boost because the modular engines (with the exception of the supercharged cobra and lightning) have glass pistons that will shatter with a hint of detonation. The power slots are gonna be fine. Heck, your stock brakes will be fine. As far as hassle free, I don't know about that. I'd set aside a good 2 full days to install it. The hypertech probably advanced the timing which is bad with a supercharger so I'd say no, you couldn't use it for the extra power. Use it for tire sizes and stuff, yes. Power, no.
