This has been a real off and on subject and there is not a lot of good info out there. Even the military is kinda :-X about it. They do admit that the present #2 is causing more injector pump wear than before and now that the Army has switched from #2 to JP8 in order to have a common fuel (probably caused by the present crop of drivers not knowing the difference between mogas, diesel, and jet A). big time higher injector pump failures are happening. It's enough of a problem with us that we now have a full time guy that does nothing but rebuild and test injector pumps.<br>I don't know much about additives. I seen those that boost cetane, clean injectors, absorb moisture (Hoss, you can't use those to keep Juneyour dry), increase lubricity, and so on. Seriously ..I can hear the difference in the engine clatter when I use another brand of additive.
The two that I've found work the best for me are Howes (available at most truck stops), and Lubetec (available from www.wildcatdiesel.com. But verrrry expensive once you add in shipping)

 

I use the Power Service, no reason other than it has worked for me for some time now (and Shovelhead, can I have one?)

 

Now setting up fax for liquids and multiple distribution lists.

 

I have a question.<br><br>Some of the additives claim to be injector cleaner.<br>And at the same time, claim to be a lubrication additive.<br><br>How can you clean and lubricate at the same time.<br>I'm thinking whatever is present to clean the injectors (i.e. detergents) would rob the injector pump of needed lubrication.<br><br>And, while I'm at it, what additive provides the Cetane boost?<br>(in the ones that claim to boost Cetane)<br>And, is this particular ingredient a lubricator or a cleaner?<br><br>Therefore if you get an additive that does all three, how exactly?<br><br>phox

 

I've used PS once. There did seem to be a bit better mileage, maybe .2 mpg, but there was more clatter. <br>I've found too that different distributors fuel is different.<br>I had a situation where I had to use some high sulphur ag fuel one time. It was amazing at the difference in how the truck ran. Smoked a bit more too.<br>What about Sea Foam? A lot of truckers around here swear by it.<br>(I've got g-boys running in and out and it's hard to stay on track)<br>I did talk with the guy that brings my tractor fuel out. He can bring undyed stuff (taxed) for what ever more the taxes are. It seems that that have two blends of fuel at their plant. I'm may have to try that and maybe get a larger bulk tank.<br>Someone mentioned an ashless 2 stroke oil.<br>Also read where our north coaster friends have done quite a bit of research using canola oil as an additive.<br><br>justthrowingstuffupintheairShortr ound out

I buy five quarts at a time and use half a quart for eight tanks and a full quart every ninth tank. Works for me and it's my money.

 

Here's a tangent for Shortround. I don't know about your unit, but any I was in didn't have a problem docking pay for your mistakes. I bought a set of Bino's somebody else lost on my last field problem . The push for jp-8 for easier logistics had started before the first gulf war. Same for weapons. They fazed out the 8 inch howitzer to simplify ammo distribution, easier deployment for 155(light or armor), and more shell/fuze combos for 155. Paladin was in the works too. MLRS is also easier to deploy and is on a 113 chassis making maintenance issues better. You probably knew most of this, but I'm fighting the Z monster right now.

 

Speaking of going off on tangents <br>I saw where the Navy and Marines deployed their entire stock of M-14's (also M-21's) to the Gulf region because the mighty 5.56 didn't have the penetration and range needed. Army said it wasn't required, that why they have MLRS.<br>Back to the additive thang;<br>Just got a report in from TACOM (Tank Automotive Command) that covers testing of GM 6V53 and Cummins (whatever block the 250 NA and its turbo brother is). They ran JP-8 with and without additives and also ran low sulphur diesel with and without additives. Quit banging on the door.... I'll be done when I'm done!! <br><br>Our dept has used the 5.56 soft nose in an H&amp;K for some time. Found it glances off doors and windshields nicely. Finally switched to ball.... helped a little. Still like the round but 7.62 would get a few surrenders quicker.
