Fight with VW Jetta
 

I was in a collision with a VW Jetta last week. the car hit the front right corner at the wheel from a diagonal into the corner from the front. I have some pictures in my gallery that are currently waiting for the OK from an admin, but that may give you some idea of what happened when they are processed. My truck was going about 5mph through an intersection. It is believed that the other car was traveling at approximately 35-40mph. does this estimate seem correct for the damage that was done?

That could be about right.
35-40 is a pretty good speed.

Front suspension wasn't meant to be smacked on the diagonal like that.
Front hit or side hit would have broken less.

Looks like your cab shifted on it's mounts, hence the gap difference between the cab and bed.


Don't happen to have pics of the Jetta's damage do you?
Guessing it was totalled?

I will try to find the Jetta and shoot some pictures of it. It was totalled without question. The engine compartment was about 40% the size that it started out being. The driver of the Jetta had no severe injury. Had the pavement been dry (it was raining) she may have been killed because the truck would not have slid sideways as much as it did. Witnesses said the truck was up on 2 wheels at the time of the impact. I was able to drive it up to the parking lot that it is sitting in now. I will be going over to load it onto a trailer tomorrow. If I can find the Jetta tomorrow, I will take some pictures of it.

That's just stuff, replacable.

Just basing this on the pictures.

Couple thousand bucks and the Ram will be good as it was before bumping into the Jetta.

Maybe $3K.

Axle looks ok, externally.

Skyjacker stuff, steering stuff and maybe a tracbar should make the front end good.
1 rim.
Couple of cab mount bolts, maybe some welding.

Phox, do you think the frame is bent? there are some pictures that are shot down the side of the truck where you can see a distinct angle difference between the cab and bed. Is that a likely problem?

Dang, its a bad week to be an axle on a Ram:rolleyes: I got hit, you got hit, who's next??? One question, did it bend the control arms or snap the mounts off? I would definitely make sure they take a good look at the frame alignment and shoot the axle for straightness. I am still waiting for a report back on mine[eyecrazy] If the axle is bent, don't accept anything but a new or quality used/rebuilt one. like Phox said, it is all replaceable things. But I can bet you're just feeling sick right now[yuk] but it can be repaired. Good luck on the repairs and keep us posted.

Hopefully that's just from the cab shifting on the cab mounts.

Just guessing and hoping.

Ouch, I just saw the pic you're talking about, Durasmack. There is definitely a difference between the cab and bed. The bad part, as far as I can see, is that it looks like the fender is inline with the cab, possibly indicating a bent frame. Its all speculation, until you can get it up on a frame rack. Then you get to play the waiting game[eyecrazy]

Phox, Matt, I hope the frame isnt damaged. I havent had this truck more than a couple weeks. "New Toy Syndrome" was still in effect.... I hope the frame isnt bent. Someone that came over and looked at it brought up the possibility of cab mounts based upon the strength of the 2500 frames. he said that those frames are very hard to bend.

Interco must do a great job with those tires. that tire took all of the force.... and it still holds air........

Matt, do you have any pictures of your truck from being hit?

That's what I'm basing my assumption on as well.

Since the frame itself wasn't hit, most likely it didn't get bent.

Cab mounts are thinner, shock towers are thinner.
They'd bend or break before the frame, I'd think.

yea, i would hope so. that jetta got under the front at some point and came in contact with the front part of the frame, but that is its strong direction, lengthwise. It doesnt seem that the cab really was contacted either, but momentum may have had something to do with that...

it dont look like the bodies been damaged too much. that big rubber tire probably saved the girls life. i sold him that truck about a month ago i have the before pics in my gallery
