Fender Bender and Hertz Rental Company

Back in June, while my truck was parked in the parking garage at my office, some knucklehead in a Hertz rental car ran into my front bumper and put some scratches on it.

Even though I didn't like the scratches, they weren't that noticable so at the time I decided not to pursue making Hertz pay for the damages.

On Saturday I got a bill in the mail from Hertz to the tune of $1500. They wanted ME to pay for the damages to the Toyota Corolla that ran into my truck as it sat there just minding its own business while I was happily working away in the office.

After a few emails and phone calls they now realize just how stupid they were in asking me to pay for damage that the person driving THEIR rent car did and they dropped the claim and apologized for being stupid (my words, not theirs).

Anyway, as a matter of principle and because they made me mad by sending me a bill for the damage to their car without ever even calling to get the REAL side of the story, I'm getting an estimate done to have my truck fixed and I intend to file a claim with Hertz for reimbursement.

I'm mostly telling you this because it's my drama for the day and I thought someone here might find it interesting, if not entertaining (that and I needed an excuse to take a break from working). But, since you're here, has anyone ever filed a claim against Hertz? Were they pretty good about paying up?

So, the car that hit you wrote down your licence number and turned you in to hertz for being in the way? WHen you weren't in your truck??? And they actually sent you a bill? WOW. Imagine being the guy who answered your phone call to contest it.

That pretty much sums it up.

What do you suppose a new bumper costs these days? It was on the painted plastic part of the bumper so I don't think it's just a matter of touching up the paint. I think it will have to be replaced...or at least the plastic part of it.

Anyone know where I can buy a neck brace??

If body shops down there are anything like round here, that should be about a cool THOUSAND before it's all said and done.

If you saw me in a 1991 Honda Civic, then Yeah! (You know I'm not in the blue truck anymore, right?)

I'm up there all the time probably 3 or 4 times a week for work, but rarely in my truck.

You do wear sunglasses and a large hat in an attempt to hide when driving that thing....don't you?

It's a beater, that's for sure. When I'm busy I can drive up to 400 miles a week.
Best part is the clutch is just about totally smoked, so it get to jerking and bucking at stop signs/lights every so often.

Take it to the dealership for an estimate. We all know how high they are.
