Falling from the stratosphere at the speed of sound.
How cool would that be, to free-fall from 23 miles at 690 miles per hour.
He hopes to become the first person to break the sound barrier outside of an airplane, says no one knows what happens to a body when it breaks the sound barrier.

Red Bull has been promoting a live Internet stream of the event at http://www.redbullstratos.com/live , from all cameras except those on Baumgartner's body. But organizers said there will be a 20-second delay in their broadcast of footage in case of a tragic accident.
Wonder for how long he will be falling?
Good Luck Felix Baumgartner
Godspeed

The guy's obviously nuts!!!! I much prefer my behind planted on terra firma. In light of this story I did read this morning that it was put on hold due to weather issues. When it does go down, I hope he achieves his goal and stays alive to tell about it.
He should be free falling close to 4 minutes prior to opening his parachute. At the low air densities he will be in, there shouldn't be much of any felt concussion when/ if he breaks the sound barrier. I will be amazed if he is able to go mach 1 or better though. Even with low density and drag, his suit is really not very aerodynamic. Thanks for the heads up on the live feed. I will have to check that out.

As some of you know I used to teach HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) used primarily for night time insertion by a small force into enemy territory.
The highest I jumped was a little over, 40,000 ft which is higher than most HALO operations......I can't imagine jumping the height he is doing but for 10 bucks and a couple shots of white lightning I am IN!....NOT
No worries though because anything above 100 ft or so is terminal velocity anyway...you would just have less of a tendency to bounce from that height....can you say human shaped crater?

Almost still wind, window of oportunity closing, started to inflate what looked like a pilot balloon and about a 5 mph gust came along and slapped it down. Mission control called for an abort.
Tomorrow looks iffy. Some day soon it will fly.
That balloon is so large that anything over 2 mph surface and near surface wind could wreck the launch.
