Dumb question

when looking at a map of an area you have never been in,
How do you know which side of the road is even and which is odd? without actually being there.

Im going to houston next week and want to make two stops on Westheimer. They are a couple blocks apart and on opposite sides of the road (one even, one odd address). I want to make sure I stop at them in the right order and dont want to have to fight a bunch of left hand turns.

Around here even numbers are on the north and west sides of the street - odd numbers on the south and east sides. Might be different where you are.
