we have regular alaska posts, and Canada (western new york is the best for canadian american relations) because we know you guys have it worse with the cold. we just get snow, so it is no big deal. with some winds off the lake, yeah it can get raw. but we are not alaska, and nice that our media shows respect you guys living regularly up there.

california news, our observation, is that only california exists.

you know cold. heh, our propane tanks won't shut off here due to the cold and moisture, but we bring them inside (burning) and hold our hands over the controls. it thaws it and goes out in about five minutes. but our diesels fire up. you guys have all the tough stuff! eek.

like ofc marc talking about changin out a bearing. could not imagine doing that at 40 below and such.

When i was in Anchorage last month, the hotel I stayed at had the WC wheather channel, so I watched considering the storm that was coming in. I about got whip lash when they did an Ak. bit....Here (don't know if marc gets it or not) at my house the WC never mentions us.

Glad somebody else remembers that one. Uh, does that mean we're both old or is it just you?

WRONG! if it did hit -120* we'd have a BBQ and pose in front of one of the big temp. signs downtown in our swim trunks for a cool picture!

One that got me last year was I was watching TV with a friend, he was at his house I was at mine, temps outside were -60 (that explains why were watching at separate houses, to cold to fire up the rigs so we bs about the show on the phone) anyway the weather channel had this show about the TOP 10 Storms of the week" Now I'll give the first to they mentioned were substantial storms but they jump to the next one about some poor sap that got stuck in a snow drift at +35 and survived the night with only slight frost bite...Here we are thinking why not a small bit about if that had happened in the Interior of Alaska that day, life expectancy outside unprepared can be 30 seconds to 5 min. max. Now I enjoy being in a place where most people have no idea where we are (like most maps show us south of Ca.) But if you want to control every darn thing we do an say up here (now you wanna tell our Iditarod musher they can’t smoke a bowl to relax) then at least acknowledge we exist.
Exactly!

It's a rare occasion that I see ANYTHING on the WC about AK.

Busy night in the big house. Little bit of ameture MMA tonight. Really a pretty good one. Made the first 1/3 of the shift fly by.

Here's a new ot of Coffee. Not "fresh" but new.

Soooo, government is running the weather channel? I never knew that!

Which is probably the main reason they shut the highway down! It means 'nothing' to too many people. We had 100+ people who felt the same way back in the blizzard you speak of in NE. We didn't shut the highway down, it shut itself down. 30+ plow trucks couldn't keep up with 10 miles of highway. 6 people died during that fiasco. Now we shut the highway down when the trucks have trouble.

Yeah right! I remember *someone* from AK, last summer, complaining about the unseasonable heat and how long it was lasting.

Morning all.

Today is Saturday, December 12th.

On this day in 1787 - Pennsylvania became the second state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

1800 - Washington, DC, was established as the capital of the United States.

1805 - Henry Wells was born in Thetford, VT. He was one of the founders of the American Express Company and he teamed up with William Fargo to form the Wells Fargo Company.

1900 - Charles M. Schwab formed the United States Steel Corporation.

1901 - The first radio signal to cross the Atlantic was picked up near St. John's Newfoundland, by inventor Guglielmo Marconi.

1937 - Japanese aircraft sank the U.S. gunboat "Panay" on China's Yangtze River. Japan apologized for the attack, and paid $2.2 million in reparations.

1946 - A United Nations committee voted to accept a six-block tract of Manhattan real estate to be the site of the UN's headquarters. The land was offered as a gift by John D. Rockefeller Jr.

1947 - The United Mine Workers union withdrew from the American Federation of Labor.

1951 - The U.S. Navy Department announced that the world's first nuclear powered submarine would become the sixth ship to bear the name Nautilus.

chaikwa.

You guys are giving me the cool bumps listening to you talk about the snow and low temps. Horrible thoughts to a Floridian. Wish you would quit that. Think I need to go out and have a dip in the pool to help wash away these horrible scenes in my head. Might sit and watch the orchids a while to help forget also. Yeh, and work some Sudoku and drink some coffee if its not too hot out there. Sun is actually out this morning for the first time in four days - - weird weather down here too.

Morning all. First performance of the pageant went off without any hitches - - - other than loosing two of our amps after they offered the most horrible squals to the audience before doing so. All seemed to get back under way well after that. At least the camel didn't try to steal the candy canes Santa gave the kids in the front row this year. Luckily we have four amps driving the system. Two more performances today and one tomorrow and then I can get ready for Christmas. Wow, keeps you busy.

Grabbing some ph00 and getting on with my day. Have a great one.

Bob

My SIL has a pic of two girls in bikinis (sp) that they took if I remember right the sign was in the -50's. She really laughs about the girls jumping out of the car, running up to the sign, posing and running back to the car, one fell flat on her face an getting very cold snow into very sensitive areas, jumping up diving into the back seat with the other girl, wrapping their bodies together, hollering at the driver to get them back to the dorm. She said two cars full of guys wanted them to pose for them, but they didn't have the million bucks they were told it would take for them to do it again...I'll try to get the pic later....

Well showered and dressed....headed to N. Pole an Fairbanks for the day...Getting a 100 gal nurse tank an pump for truck + groceries

stop and see ofc marc- tell him you'd babysit for him if the girl from brazil was there.....(hopefully over 18!) heheh

super day today!! saw titanic exhibition of items and stories (Lord, the stories!!!) fate is cruel. SOME rich people vacuum.

typical for me- wanted to go Christmas shopping at a lumber yard; then over to Gander mountain. in heaven there, all the mounts of elk, bear, moose and wolves were decked out in jingle bells, bows, etc... won a free hat and gave it to a 12 year old boy behind me. (one with lights in the brim) he was getting his first shotgun with granpa....that's what it is all about, man. got a little something fer myself, REDLEG can probably guess. hubby wanted a holster able to be covered just with a shirt. talked with an few old pals too. like a hollywood star there at the gun shop, LOL. clerk thought I MUST be an important person, kept staring at my ID.......gosh today was fun!!!

beautiful sunny day! wow, keep em coming. 12 -34 degrees is perfect weather!!!

Afternoon All!.. even our northern cousins..

Paul, tv stations are run by the numbers, since there are more veiwers to buy the advertised products in certain areas, those are the areas the stations cater too.. its not indicative of the attitudes of everyone, just the advertisers...

Nuttin much happening here today, hope it stays that way too!

yall have a good'un
