Which one of the two paragraphs would you rather read?

I'm sure I have left something out, but you get my point. Is it really that difficult?

Agreed!

Another forum that I spend a lot of time on as well has a lot of people with bad punctuation and grammar while typing. We try to get them to type properly, but sometimes people just can't break the habit of "msn/AOL" talk.

I'm so used to that kind of stuff now I think I've grown oblivious to it....or I just don't care.

I try not to get use to the poor grammar, etc... I truly think that it makes me dumber every time I read something like that. Not all of us can spell correctly, I understand that. I don't have spell check, but you can at least capitalize, add periods, commas, and so on. Just had to vent a little. Prior to this thread, I read a 4 page post that was terrible. Typed just how my previous post was typed. It drove me nuts, and I knew that this was the only place that I could vent and be accepted. Thanks

Whenever I start reading something that has poor spelling, bad grammar and no punctuation, it turns me off and I stop reading and go on to something else. Sorry, but I can't be bothered to waste my time and energy trying to figure out the message.
For those of you that say you do not have spell check, I have some unkind thoughts. There are free programs available. If you can't spell or understand grammar or punctuation, how about typing what you want to say in something like MS Word and run a spell check and grammar check there first? How hard is that? Then cut and paste to DTR.
By being too lazy to run a check and spend a few minutes cleaning up what you want to post not only shows you in a poor light, but also shows disrespect for the folks you are attempting to reach.
Do I now need to don my asbestos suit to avoid being flamed by the semi-illiterates?

If you don't have spell check on your computer then go here,

http://www.onelook.com/

works for me, just leave it open on my browser and if I need it there it is.

Still cruise right over the bad grammer stuff, what was that thing someone posted, an article with all the misspelled words except the first and last letter and amazingly people are able to read what it says because of how the mind operates. That's how I get with the things that are misspelled. Punctuation.....it's the internet and I suck at grammer/punctuation. I do what I can but really could'nt give a poop. I'm not writing an article for the "Times" or the "Post". Spelling, well, really could'nt care either way on that, if you want to look like a complete idiot, hack away don't break my heart, hurt my feelings, I'll figure it out if I'm interested in what your talking about.

The occasional mis-spelled word, even several mis-spelled words, or a missing comma, period etc., is no big deal. But when you have to stop in mid sentence to figure out what a word is, or what idea is trying to be conveyed, is just irritating. Some people don't even try and it makes them look like complete idiots.

I think I understand what you mean by the, "for those of you that say you do not have spell check, I have some unkind thoughts." In the post I applied to this thread which is #6, I do have spell check. I just have to use it under MS word. So I believe your comment was in general, and not toward the post that I added in #6, being I am the one complaining about laziness of others when typing a post or thread.

Well, I hope that most people that read the original post that I started understand what I mean by, "you get the point." Like posted earlier, it is okay for misspelled words, or the occasional lack of punctuation and grammar. It’s the blatant disregard of the English language. Like the first paragraph I posted.

when i first started reading the first sentance i got lost! had to look back a few times haha. and as mexstan said it just turns you off to the post. i think a few errors here and there arent too bad but when you abbreviate words with numbers and all that nonsense it gets annoying, and makes you think the writer has no idea what they're talking about.

I hated the first paragraph, but I tend to give the poster a bit of leeway. What if he's stupid or spell-tarded?

I know a guy whose emails are full of words that are just plain wrong and I asked him why he doesn't use a spellchecker? He said he does- so I looked back at a couple of his emails. There and their, contract and contact, obvious and oblivious... it just depended where his fingers rambled, then he chose whatever the program suggested. Made him sound like a te-rard.

I just look at all the torn up posts as if the poster was dyslexic, learning disabled or had a stroke.

It's The Guys Who Begin Every Word With A Cap That Gets Me Stirred Up. Like He's Telling You The Title Of A Book Or Song.

OR ALL CAPS FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

And flavored coffee creamers. Just unnatural.

Not defending the issue you speak of, just a reminder that English is not everyones primary language.

Agreed because this is a Web Site that everyone across the globe is able to use, but if you live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, it is!
