Double Tap Ammunition

Anyone ever used it? It's relatively new to the market, but I'm hearing lots of good things about it. Any of you gun guys ever shot any?

Naturally, I'd shoot a couple hundred rounds of it through my gun before I ever relied on it for concealed carry, but I'm wondering if anyone else here has experience with it.

Although it isn't apparent from the page you linked to, it appears to be a cartridge with two slugs piggybacked. It's been done before but I can't remember if there was any actual increase in stopping power. It is also an assumption that both slugs hit the target. I'd have to see some real test results before I invested a lot of money or bet my life on them.

Ummmm.....how did you arrive at that conclusion?? I don't see any indication of that....and in fact I've never even heard of doing that with a pistol round. Did I miss something?

I am particularly interested in the .40 S&W 165gr Gold Dot.

For what it's worth, at least in the case of the .40 cal, they use the exact same Gold Dot bullet that Speer uses. The Speer 165gr Gold Dot is probably one of THE most popular rounds for the .40 cal.

The 10mm is definitely a great cartridge. I'd love to have one for concealed carry, but it's just such an expensive cartridge that I wouldn't be able to afford to practice with it.

I'm gonna give the Double Tap ammo a try. I ordered 250 rounds of .40 S&W this morning. I'll try it out in a combat handgun course I'm taking in April and see how it does. If it feeds well in my Glock and shoots every time then I'll probably make it my carry ammo. They advertise considerably higher velocities than any other .40 S&W cartridge I've seen on the market. I consider that a good thing.

I was going by the picture of the target with two holes in it. My Bad.

So what's so special about this ammo?

I take it you're not familiar with the term "double tap"??

I'm not sure that there's anything special about it....except that it projects the bullet at a higher velocity than any other self defense ammo that I've seen to date (I'm only talking about the .40 S&W...didn't look at the others). It's just a relatively new brand of ammo that I've heard good things about and I was wondering if anyone here had ever tried it before.

Wouldn't "higher velocity" inhibit "Double-Taps" by causing more recoil induced muzzle flip?

I'd say that depends on how much you practice.

Wonder if you could get a custom spring for the hotter rounds to keep the slide from slamming back smoothing out the action? It wouldn't inhibit the idea of the double tap though. You don't want to over lap your shots. You want multiple wound channels.

A stronger spring is probably a good idea....and readily available too.

I've seen some have ports put in the upper part of the barrel to reduce recoil. How does this work out? Anybody have this?

That's called "compensated". It works well for competition shooting, but it isn't good for self defense purposes. In low light conditions you are likely to be temporarily blinded by the flash of flames that come out of the ports.

Should be done professionally. They make the holes so some of the muzzle blast is directed up to create a downward force that counteracts the rocking motion from the recoil.

Hoss, I see you got me while in the middle of a phone call....
