Re:Digital Cameras?
About 2 years ago I bought the Sony Mavica FD-95...it is a 2.1 megapixel, 20X digital zoom. It uses standard floppy disks that hold 30+ pics at 640X480 which is what you want for on-screen viewing and e-mail. This is a huge camera, about the size of a 2 1/4" SLR film camera. I love it. We have two good 35mm cameras that never get touched anymore. The best thing is that we take about three times as many pictures as we used to...with no "bad" pics.
Things I like:
1. Ability to manipulate the image within the camera, then save the new image.
2. 20X digital zoom IS a plus. I can go to the kids play's or other functions and take pics from a very dark seating area by zooming in on the well lit stage....no flash needed.
3. Camera has a regular viewfinder. Turn the LCD screen off and use the viewfinder just like my old 35mm. This is mostly personal preference, but it also greatly extends battery life.
4. Wife has MUCH better luck with this camera than she ever did with the 35mm. She takes it everywhere.
Dislikes:
1. No snapshots...the shutter does have a delay of a couple of secs. This infuriated me at first but really it just takes some getting used to. Once you learn to depress the shutter button slightly as you bring the camera up...it is ready when you are.
2. There is a hotshoe for the flash...but you are stuck with Sony's flash.
It was a ridiculous amount of money...but I have to say that we love it.
The attached pic was taken from about 10 rows back in a darkened auditorium on 20X zoom. That image was then enlarged and cropped. Resolution was set on 640X480 & this is a 2.1mp camera. Image quality is still fine for e-mail etc.
