Diesel, pounds per gallon???

What is the weight of diesel in pounds per gallon? Looking at installing a extra tank in the bed @70 gallons.
It has to be less than 8.3 Lbs/gallon, that is what water is.

From http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/FAQ/diesel_fuel.htm

It varies somewhat, but averages around 7.1 lb per US gallon.

Hoss, thanks for the link. As a reminder, red dye diesel is illegal to use for on the road vehicles. It was made for farm tractors and farm trucks. The red dye was authorized by the IRS to catch tax cheaters (no fed/state tax). It takes seven tanks of #2D to flush out all remnants of the red dye. In Montana, where I used to live, getting caught with red dye in your tanks was a stiff fine. Most locals used key-lock caps to prevent the MHP from siphoning their tanks, while we were at horse shows and auctions.

I guess only those using illegal fuel would see fit to lock fuel caps to prevent testing? Unless you've got fuel thieves stalking the lots at horse shows out there.

I've also heard that if they want to get tricky, they'll take a peek at the fuel filter itself and look for the dye.

Most people used cap locks, more than I had experienced before. It's just their attitude. Not because they're guilty of anything. It does keep the snooping cops outta their tanks tho. Getting to see the fuel filter, without breaking into the truck? That's not a real bright idea.

Yep, 6.8 lbs per gal. There's very little difference between diesel and aircraft fuel "JP-5". JP-5 weighs 6.8 lbs per gal.
