A day without a Mexican.

I was just taking a look at what movies are currently showing here and one is called "A day without a Mexican". (Un dia sin Mexicanos) It is a comedy. According to the synopsis it is about Californians waking up on morning to discover that 14 million Mexicans have vanished. This prompted me to remember that recently there have been a thread or two about illegal aliens in the states. (Or should that be, States?)
So now I have a tongue-in-cheek question for you guys up north and even further north.
What if all the Mexicans vanished from the USA and Canada? Could the country function? Even given a one year recovery time?

Probably not. I know some of the farms in this area couldnt function. We have a lot of migrant workers come through during harvest season.

We have allot of Mexican Migrant farm workers in Georgia too....I have known some for a short time......they work hard at jobs no one else wants to do....then sent most of their money back to Mexico to their family....they live in their trucks or 6 men to a 1 bedroom apt to save money....they buy their clothes at goodwill or flea markets to save money

Of course there are bad ones too that will steal y'all blind in a heart beat.....but theres allot of born americans that will too

I am working in the McAllen, TX area and for the first time in my life I am the minority. The majority of the people living along the Rio Grande are Mexicans though many of them are citizens. If all the citizens that are 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation left with the Mexican nationals then I would be one of very few people left in the Rio Grande Valley. There are a lot of crops grown here in the valley and I feel sure that without the Mexicans there would be a lot fewer fruits and vegetables in the markets throughout the USA. In Northeast Texas where I live the chicken industry employs a lot of people and many, maybe most, are Mexicans.

Any work in the southwest that requires a lot of manual labor would be devastated for a while but maybe it would force some of our welfare recipients to get up off their lazy rear ends and go to work.

Heavens to Betsy! You can't be serious! What about their rights? Their right to remain a lazy bum and their right to have you pay for their welfare. Work? I thought four letter bad words like that were banned on this site.

I am so ashamed for being so harsh. I think I will go find a needy person on a corner and give him my CTD in exchange for his sign.

Nah! He can go get a job and pay for his own. I am of the school that says "if you don't work, you don't eat."

I havent seen an ad for it..... lots of them immigrant worker types here. They come through every year during wheat harvest. The country would jest about starve without 'em, tho it would be nice to see some the the healthy lookin' types sitting at the un-employment office collecting their welfare checks put to work......

I haven't seen any in my town (Kamloops 80,000 pop). The last I heard Vancouver B.C. Canada was trying to import some to pick vegtables in the Fraser Valley as we have no one who will pick here for low wages. They were going to fly them up. Caused a bit of a stir as we have homeless people that don't work or don't want to also. And of course welfare bums to. I think all the East Indians must have retired.
