If it is Norton Internet Security try and disable the firewall and it should work again. If you are behind a router you will have to assign which ports to allow.
One of my clients does this at least once a month and I get a good service call for it. NIS checks the system and lets you know with a pop up that it is not enabled and if you click it, you loose your internet and intranet.
Maybe it is the same problem.
