I have much respect for the Glock platform. I have the Springfield XD 40 4" but with the added width of the frame and slide, I find it uncomfortable to carry. So, the 1911 gets the dibs in an OWB at 4:30.

I'd really like a 23. I had a 27 but got rid of it. That 23 sure does fit well in my hand though. :cool:

Carry load is Winchester Silver Tips, and toasting out of there with 649 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, it took some practice to get proficient [eyecrazy]. I have put a lot of range time in with various 45's, and 44's FWIW, so I was a little adjusted to "stuff" to begin with. The 29 also fits me nicely.

One of the reasons I went that way is that me and my Dillon can reload the 10 a lot more cost effectively than the 45, due IMHO to the proliferation of the 40 SW bullets (10 mm), and the fact that 10 brass is less expensive than 45. More practice for me! [laugh]

I was thinking of getting a 29 simply because it has the same dimensions as the 30 and I wouldnt' have to buy all new holsters and everything for it, but I never got around to doing it. Plus, I don't reload and 10MM ammo is kind of pricey (not to mention hard to find).

Yup, off the shelf that Winchester ammo is a little salty. If it weren't for the reloading, I would have stayed with one of the 45's that I have owned over the years.

Oh, and the 10 barks pretty hard. If I don't hit what I am aiming at I figure I have a chance of scaring the ever living stuff out of the target! [eyecrazy]

Never figured I would have had the opportunity to discuss this kind of stuff here! Politely so I might add.

I may just do that....one of these days. A 29 is one of those things that I WANT....but don't necessarily NEED. Don't tell my wife that though. She must continue to think that I NEED everything I WANT. ;)

I've seen some really nice 1911's, but I think I'll stick with my Glocks. They're inexpensive, simple, reliable and incredibly accurate right out of the box....which is what I look for in a carry gun.

I may get a 1911 some day just to play with, but I'll probably never carry one. ;)

I'll take a good ol' fashioned wheel gun any day.
Personal favorite - Ruger SBH 44mag with 10.5" of cold hard steel, of course load her up with 300gr XTP's @ 1800fps to knock the stuffing out of anything. 99% hunting - 1% open carry, to keep people a LONG ways away...take one look and run to the other side of the street or further muttering something about 'crazy redneck........'

But for carry, a Tarus 44spc 2" bbl, 240 XTP's @ 1250fps.

Only auto that I ever liked with the .45 1911 when I carried in the service. Loved the 24k gold commemorative models, looked great, but never purchased. Don't think i could have lasted a week before destroying my investment....would have to shoot the darn thing!

Tried some of the Glock's, but found it hard for them to hold high enough chamber pressures to work up good loads.

Sig has a 1911 out and HK is bringing one out this year that Larry Vickers helped put together.

Should be an interesting year to see just what these new players in the 1911 field bring to the table. If they have the reliablitly that the two companies are known for, they should be a big hit.

I was a polymer fan not too long ago, but the 1911's caught my eye. You think BOMBING your truck is addictive, wait till you get on the 1911 kick.[eyecrazy]

For my next project gun, I want to do all the work myself. Use a Caspian frame and slide. And mostly Ed Brown and Cylinder and Slide Components. Should be interesting to say the least.
