Chrysler Sebring tranny question??!!

I am looking at buying a gas saver for my wife. Its a 1999 chrysler sebring lxi but the guy says it will go forward and reverse but going forward it will not shift out of first gear. He had a guy tell him that its an electrical problem. If anyone might know what the problem is let me know asap because if its not a huge problem I am going to go ahead and buy it. Due to this problem I would be able to buy the car $5000 less than it books for.

If the car is in good shape buy it anyway. So maybe you will have to put a new trans in it, So now you got it for $3000 less then the book says. My ex old lady had one and would not shift out of first because of a bad speed sensor. With out diagnosing it it is very hard to tell with electronic trans. But seriously If the rest of the car was in real good shape buy it, you will still be ahead in the long run.

If it has the A604 (or slip-O-four as it`s also known) it could very possibly be either the input or output speed sensors. You would need a scan tool to see the service data to determine if they are working but it`s a pretty common failure item on those units, just a thought.
