Knew a guy once that said he shot a .357 mag with 14 grains of Unique!!!!!
The .44 mag only used 11 grains in the old powder at that time. I made a point to not be around if he was going to be shooting.

I have a .357 Herrett, and it shoots pretty well. I got it down to 1" groups at 100 yards, which isn't too bad from a handgun. Basically it fires the same bullets at the same velocity as a 35 Remington rifle, but seems to be more accurate and better velocity than most 35 Remington handguns.
I understand the 30 Herrett shoots very well, and is probably worth the hassle of hand forming the brass.
Eventually I decided to go with a big bore for an elk handgun, and shoot 45-70 mostly now.

I will be doing all my own reloading, and eventually making my own brass.
From what I have read the 30 herrett will give me about 300fps more than the same bullet from a 30-30 with the 10" bbl.

I understand your situation now, Outrider. I just feel obligated to interject anything concerning safety when I read a thread w/ a subject I have experience/knowledge in. Shooters helping other shooter's is a great thing. I'm glad you could hook up w/ that guy to continue enjoying the sport. Are you shooting a Contender in .30 Herret?

I shoot both the Contender as well as Encore. As to the .30 Harret I'm thinking of giving up on that ideal due to the work involved in making the round.I use them due to the fact of easy cleaning and up keep.I have just got the .445 Super Mag on line after 4+ years of waiting. My friend uses a RCB Rock Crusher that I sold him,had that for 10 years laying around.Yes we are real careful when reloading.

I think that SSK can build you a .577 Nitro barrle or a .477 Nitro barrle.I also shoot 45-70 Gov in a pistol with one hand..500 S&W in Encore will be a next project.30-06 in a pistol is fun to shoot at the range.
