Chevy Tahoe Starting Problems

I'm turning to you guys and girls yet again. A friend of mine has a 2000 Chevy Tahoe. 90% of the time you turn key and it starts and all is well. The other 10% of the time you put the key in the ignition and turn to on position and absolutely nothing. No lights, no radio, no chimes, no start. You wait 5 or 10 minutes and all the lights, chimes, radio are present. It then starts with ease. What could the problem be?

This is DTR, not Chevy Truck Resource, sheeeeesh

I had a problem similar to that with a 91 blazer (I know a lot older) What had happened was the key cylinder was wore out (could take the key out running etc) What happened was sometimes it just wouldn't register and couldn't start it, or turn on, cause it didn't think the key was in there. We replaced the cylinder, got new keys and all was well again. Most of the time you had to take the key out do this, do that. Maybe if it has a chip one of the chips in the key is bad and it takes a while to read, or the resistance builds up. Could be a number of things, but may be in the key wiring. If you don't get any lights or nothing, gota be in the key or area around that electrical wiring (now that's a sentence)

Hope this helps some. And tell your friend to get on here if he needs help

Have you tried the good old WD40 in the cylinder?

The ignition switch was my first guess as well, but, when you open the door if the dome light comes on it will for sure start. I wouldn't think the ignition switch would have anything to do with the dome light. If you open the door and the dome light doesn't come on, it will not start. Not even turn over. It's like it doesn't even have a battery in it. Who knows?

If it has to do with Dome lights also I would say check the battery connections and also check the Breakers in the fuse box...
