Chev Motors are great for a gasser M30 tranny is a piece of junk
My Suburban had 150k on it when I got rid of it for a CTD. Motor was fine no problems the M30 "light duty" tranny was junk though. Put one in ever 50k ( and I "babyied" it!) or so....
And "they" wonder why the foriegn makes have so much market share. Should be the other way around!

I had a 94 GMC 1500 2 wheel drive. By far one of the best rucks I ever owned. Unfortunatley I wrecked "bad" 2 times within six months. Ins. Co. totalled it out after the second one. I lost my Tranny @ about 80K, but the motor was running strong at 240K when the truck went bye, bye. There is something to be said for the pre Vortec motors, they would run forever. Ive had a few Vortec's since then, they werent as reliable IMO

Is anyone else missing the obvious here? The fact that they went with 200,000 instead of more shows just how much faith they have in their own product! I was raised on CHEBBIES, but I'll NEVER own a newer one again, and gas prices are way too high for an older one.
I guess the 200k mile bar is dependent on what they mean by still on the road.
If they clarified "on the road" as in without any major repairs. i.e. motor, tranny, electrical system or anything outside regular maintanance, then 200k would be great.
My truck couldn't beat that mark. I have already replaced the LP, VP44 and ball joints. All with in 86k miles.
Trucks aren't indistructable but some do better then others according to their construction, engineering and manufacturing....
Maybe the 2nd gen 24v was Dodge/Cummins break from the great 12v reliability. 3rd gens??? Too soon to say...
All that being said I'm keeping my truck...she's paid for and is running great, rattles and all.....

I like my CTD but it is hard to beat a throttle body 350 for longevity. I wouldn't mind having a late 90's crewcab 4WD 2500 Chev with a 350 and the 4L80. The 350 gets better fuel mileage than the 6.0 that replaced it in the 2500 and up trucks.
4L60 is a piece of junk...
The M30 (order code) or 4L60 is a piece of junk you have to get a new one rebuild every 50K. (fortunatly mine were under warrenty but thats another long story) I went through 3 in my Suburban. I had a huge tranny cooler, ran Mobil 1 tranny fluid, towed a fairly light boat 5k#'s towed at 60 mph and always had the tow mode on. Pretty much babied it & was way under "rated" capacity.I kept begging my dealer to put in the 4L80 but they refused saying it was warrenty work they couldnt put something else in.
When the 3rd one started to go I got rid of the vehicle & got a CTD. I guess we will see how the Dodge hols up great motor but what about everything else...???
