Chainsaw ?
So we picked up a new Husky 460 this past fall to add to our arsenal of chainsaws.
I've always been kind of a Stihl fan until we started buying Husqy's about 10 years ago. We have a rancher with a 20 inch bar that has been our go to saw in the past but I am liking the 24" bar on the newer one.
I've also been using Husky demo saws the past few years for cutting concrete and brick pavers, wall block and such. They have also taken over where we used to use Stihls.
The Husky's are a little cheaper and seem to run really well.
What are the main differences in engines between the two?
Thanks, Kurt

He said he switched to a Husky..............

Seriously, I am a Stihl guy, but other than the plastic handle and controls that probably wouldn't survive my truck toolbox, I see nothing really wrong with them......

I was looking into saws about a year ago and the best rated saw I could find was a dolmar. I picked up a Makita/Dolmar 6401 and it is a beast with about 5hp and a 20inch bar. If you need more there is an 80cc upgrade for it.

still a husky fan though. my lil brother cuts over 200 cord a year and his husky puts out every day.

I have used both and I really like the Husq, took the abuse of riding around in the back of work equipment at the golf course along with being dropped of the tractor a time or two. We got a stihl later, I hate how heavy they seem, other then that good saw. My dad had the same Husq for 10 year and never had an issue until the chain drive sprocket broke. For what ever reason my dad brought it to the local Stihl/Husq dealer, they must of let the new guy work on it, apparently he used a impact and a extension (t0 hold the piston through the spark plug hole) to try to remove the nut, destroyed the piston. They basically gave my dad his new saw that he has had for about 6 years and it has been flawless also. My parents heat with would so he cuts about 8 cord a year so.
I have had huskies to pull my dog sledd. they are perfect and will eat mice like popcorn!!
my 95 acres of hardwoods and speciaty woods ($$$) loves a Stihl despite what the Chaikwa monster thinks. stubborn met stubborn chainsaw.
I have the pro series in four sizes, hubby has the big 36 inch bar on a 320 series and levels the mountain hemlocks, a sticky cut at best.
difference: stihls have more flex in running with air chamber and fuel grade. but for operation, they don't like to be turned over motor down on level cuts.
the most common chain balk is at vertical cut, tip down to start cross buck on a log. grab it from the dogs on the chainsaw and 'heel' it the start a cut.
it clears the wood on that initial bite.
husqvarna needs it exact but cuts in any weather, position. it does not like out of position cuts but as above, need a pro series, period.
both have gone to lighter plastic cases. stihls can get a burnout cyl or piston quicker on a no oil plug/situation. hasqs will have a case burn if out of adjustment and that is more expensive.
I put my stihl on the tracks of my bulldozer and, three hours later, fired up the dozer to tackle a problem. moved and just pinched the case, but a part integral to the whole saw broke. stihl replace the whole saw. my fault, no problem. that's why i stay with stihl and bought their new mini stihl. barely five pounds of saw with power of my pro series 240.
I wear 'husky' Tshirts becuase they are cool, but I stand solid for stihl saws.
hope that helped. Heidi 'the tramp in the woods'

With full chisel on a 20" bar ( hey, there aren't many trees left around here, much less big ones.) I can't bog my 028 Magnum.
