CB radios?
Same set up as dssimecek - keep the portable right under the center console armrest - antenna cable comes in through rear slider - receives and transmits great for vehicles nearby on the highway (which is what I want it for). I keep mine on Chan 19, with the squelch "tight" so that I don't get static, weak signals, "skip". Single mag mount antenna on roof works great, even when towing the 44' goose which has a higher roof profile.
Peaking is just raising the output as high as the equipment is capable of. It isn't quite that legal, so no, they won't sell one like that at a truck stop. We take them to CB shops to get it done. There are some epay stores that will sell them peaked and modified. The wattage is supposed to be regulated at 4w IIRC. Mine are all in the 15-26w range. It makes it easier to talk over the hills here. I think I paid 20 bucks to have my radio peaked and tuned. One thing...getting it peaked and tuned makes it all the more important to tune the antennas. Having a SWR meter on the radio is a good thing with peaked radios.
You can buy a cb from any cb shop online and for about 25 or 30 bucks they will peak and tweak them for you. Places that i have bought some equipment from are claysradioshop.com, walcottcb.com sparkyscbshack.com. If you want and all out awesome performing radio, check out radioactiveradios.com. They are expensive, but from what i have heard, they are the best in the business. Get yourself and external SWR meter to fine tune your antennas, the SWR meters that are built in the radios are alright, but and external one can get you a better tune
Cobra 29 WITHOUT soundtracker.....or just pay a lil extra and get yurself a little Galaxy....if yur lookin for looks...get dual firestics with only one hooked up...or if ya wanna get out further get a wilson magnet...
I've got a Uniden Pc66 with a wilson mag mount antenna. This setup has worked perfect for me. I have a 949 galaxy also, that served me well in my chevy. Like the other guys say, get it peaked and tuned and dial in the antenna, you should be loud and clear
i my self run a DX99V with a willson 5000 magmount in my truck i do about 60 watts out the back with no linear and it dose me verry good i had to make a mount for mine out of some plate and angle iron but you can fins mounts that atach to the seat bolts in front to mount it in front of the center seat and i have no prob with the cup holder or transfer shifter at all

I have both the Galaxy 88 and a Cobra 148 GTL with uppers/lowers installed. Someone mentioned Clays and Walcot CB shops, when I was driving those were two of the best. On the peak and tune I would be careful who you let do it, a lot of shops pawn it of an a modulation kit, no such thing all they do is cut/bypass the limits and not upgrade the stock parts they are overloading, kind like you truck. Your Antenna is the most important part of your system, and since Wilson has been sold to Barjan, I can't speak for them.
