car stereos

was out driving my vw the other day. and i can't believe how much i missed it. mainly cause of my stereo.

my buddy spent around 4 grand for his stereo. and lets just say it sounds like absolute crap.

mine i spent 900 dollars. 1 10" pheonix gold, 2 pioneer 6X9's, 4 2" with tweeters infinity speakers, alpine 250 watt mono amp and a cheap blaupunkt cd deck. and it just sounds amazing. i have two more blaupunkt door speakers i just haven't gotten around to installing yet. and frankly it sounds better than almost any other big dollar system i've heard.

what are you guys running in you're cars/trucks?

pioneer avic-n4 navi screen
memphis carbon-fiber adj tweeter components for all 4 doors
streetedge tweeters mounted in the top corners of the windshield
Kicker L5 15" sub mounted in a 4.0 cu ft ported Superbass Probox
Memphis mcd-1000 1100watt amp for the 15
Memphis mca-250 75x4 watts amp for the components

I use a bass gain **** to tune in my music as I listen to it. The screens eq is detailed and has good tuning characteristics, but the bass can be all over the place if I change music types.

The system I have right now is the best one I have ever put together. It is all older stuff except the speakers but man it sounds awesome and I have spent up to $7500 dollars on a system before. It is an Alpine 7969 Deck, competition deck with a solid copper chasis and no internal amp, a Kicker 12" L7 in a sealed box with an older Rockford power 1000 mono amp. Alphasonic 3 way component system with the tweeter in the stock dash tweeter position, the 6.5 in the front doors, and the 5.25 in the back doors. The Alphasonic component set is being pushed by a Rockford 800 2 channel amp. All of this is tied together with a 5 farad capacitor. Like i said before, it is probably the best sounding system I have ever put together and I only have around 1500 in it, thnaks to Ebay.

I am currently assembling mine. I have a JL 500/1 and am looking at two of those new shallow Kenwood 12's for behind the mega cab seats. I have some 5.25 JL's for the rear, 2 old style MB Quart 6.5" components with crossovers and 1" tweeters for the dash and front doors.
I also have this old fossil JBL amp that has out lived and out performed any other four channel I have had. Still looking at new head units that I can run a USB drive on as well as a Sirius radio add on that displays off the head unit and hides in the dash.

Probably take me til spring to get it all together and installed.

Headunit:
Desktop Computer w/ DVDAudio player.

Amps:
Alpine MRD M605 -> two Xtant X1044 10's (custom box)
Alpine MRV-1005 -> Alpine DDDrive 6.5" components (Front)
Alpine MRV-T420 -> Alpine SPR 6.5" coax (rear)
Alpine 3522 -> Alpine SBS-05DC Center Channel

Subs would be alpine but the Type S' suck and the Type R and Type X are too deep to keep a box under the backseat and maintain the backseat.

Sounds ok. Im leaning more towards their new digital amps in the next setup... oh boy do those PDX series sound sooo good.

ouch. it happens thats why i kept my installation as hidden as possible. went with the plainest/cheapest looking deck i could find. all my speakers are hidden. most people cut out the rear deck lids on vw's to install 6x9's but i simplly just zip tied them underneith and still got kick *** sound out of it. you don't see anything untill you pop the hatch.

I haven't decided whether to just use an amp & my ipod or to just put a stock MOPAR deck back. That is the 2nd system i have lost from this vehicle.

" i spent 900 dollars"

Your really gonna be sick when that thing disapears. Make sure you have it documented so if it does, your insurance will beleive it really existed.

I just have a cheap $89 Walmart special so I can laugh when this one disapears like the last one. Also, make sure you don't install it too permanent so the thief won't do too much damage.

Well I don't run a big sound system in my truck because I think it would rattle too much
But in my car i have this in my nissan

2- JL 12 Inch sub woofers- 430 each
Ported box - 90 bucks
Kenwood 2400/1 amp- 700 dollars
Power Cap- 250 dollars
Kenwood head unit- 300 dollars
4 JL 6 1/4 inch speakers. 65 each
Mtx equalizer- 250

I will say its worth every penny. Ive heard that people can hear me as far a 3 miles away on some days. Most of you probably arnt into ridiculously loud sound systems though. Total price with everything to get it going was around 3 grand. But it was well worth it. I like my loud music. especially when im angry. Right in the area of 147-149dB

a GREAT component set is the basis of good sound.

i had a set of 6.5 Boston Acoustics in a camaro,
and some 6.5 MB Quarts in a F-150.

both those vehicles ROCKED with low power (but clean) amps,
meduim priced decks,
and a used medium priced 10 inch sub (JL in one)

we put 2 15's (maybe 18's?) in a buddy's jeep cherokee.
it was a BIG BOX with a RF 600a (i think, i slept since then)

the roof would flex about almost an inch when you looked across it.
