I thought the same thing as I posted...I expressed my concern and I too have had the unfortunate experience of knowing someone who perished in something like that.
I considered how it would be taken and to make light of it is just that...humor...not intended to harm or revive the pain of a direct encounter with such a thing.
If I was to come across this in my travels and there where no emergency crews on scene, you can bet your last dollar I'd be doing what I could to save or get the flames under control. Not an easy task with all the parts a vehicle has that quickly become fuel for the fire.

Hi Ed. Yes its been a long long while. When are you DTRonians from out your way heading my way for a visit and a fishing trip?

I too have seen a few people who died in one of those things. I still vividly remember the screams of one such individual as he died within the car, the flames so heavy, (like the one in the picture), you couldn't even see him. Couldn't get water on it fast enough to do any good, but it was probably just as well. I can't imagine living thru something like that. Even tho it was 20 years ago, I bet he would still be in surgeries and rehab. Personally, I think I'd rather die. And there was the firefighter that got both legs amputated as he stood in front of the burning car and the bumper blew off. Not a fun night then either.

But Scotty is right, it's just humor not intended to harm anyone. As for myself, I find a small amount of strange humor when we pull up to a car in that condition and the owner is standing nearby screaming for us to 'save' it. "Really?" I think. Just what do they expect there will be left to save at that point?

Maybe we get hardened to these things when we're exposed to them repeatedly, but I CAN assure you, no harm was intended.

Just had a car rearend a transit bus and burst into flames trapping the occupant and burning up both the car and the bus. We were on scene within 90 seconds and had to push civilians out of the way that were trying to remove the driver of the car. Got a defensive line on the front while we popped the door and got him out. Kudos to the people trying.
