Can Line-X Be Removed

Just like the title says, can Line-X be removed after being applied. For instance, if you had some nerf bars Line-X'ed, is there a way to remove it yourself, or have it removed?

We sandblast high density urethane pretty regularly. I'm not sure the chemical composition of Line-X, looks pretty tough though. The money you will spend on blasting it could be put towards buying a new shiny stainless set. You can get them for about $150.00 shipped on EBay.

Abrasive blasting and rubbery things usually don't mix, dwell time (it bounces, absorbs the media's energy) and the possibility for surface degradation make it tough to do.

You can use a sanding wheel with the segregated strips of sandpaper and a grinder or hi-speed drill. This keeps the debris from loading up a regular type disc. This is what my body guy uses when doing repairs and its tedious but effective.

I had some of the purple PVC solvent spill on mine and it had no problem lifting it down to bare metal. May take a can or two but I think it would work if it sat on it long enough.

BigBlue, what's wrong with your Line-X?

I agree with the other folks, I would just buy a new set. You could always sell your old ones on ebay and recover some of your money. The no-name brands on ebay use exactly the same mounting hardware as Westin by the pictures, they just drop $200 from the price!

When it was originally sprayed they sprayed it to thin so when I had them respray it they laid one quick coat over the top of it to shut me up and now it's peeling off and chipped and by god I paid to much money for this thing and I want it done right. The guy at line x wasn't to happy when he got my phone call and told them what I wanted done. He really wasn't happy when he told me they don't do that and I asked for his boss's name and number.

Here's the best way I have found.

I use Kleen-Strip Premium Sprayable Stripper, labeled for use on Paint, Epoxy, & Polyurethane. I buy it at the hardware store.

Sprayed it on and left it 10 minutes to activate and bubble up and then used my scrapper and it comes off like a breeze - no effort, make sure to wash it off after you get it off.

Also the will cook off any painted surface so don't get it on anything you don't want stripped.

Goes without saying, suit up when using this stuff - no exposed skin and glasses or face shield.
