Buyer's Remorse on used car from dealer...
Well, we sold our beautiful conversion van yesterday and found a nice Town & Country from a local used car dealer. The van is very nice and the price was great. It's an 07 w/ 17000 miles on it. I dropped my wife off at the dealer and let her handle the transaction since it's her vehicle. After she got home I noticed that it did not have foglights, as they had advertised, and it also had a warning light on in the dash. She said that they told her to bring it back and they will take care of that light plus fix some paint damage on the rear bumper. Of course, none of this was written down on any paperwork. After she went and put the car seats in the van she also noticed how little legroom there was in the back seats. I'm thinking now about taking it back and looking for something else. The light in the dash is for low tire pressure and after checking around on the good old internet I discovered that it is a common problem which apparently has no fix. Park on an uneven surface and it comes on. Let the weather get cold and it comes on. The only way to get rid of it is to take it to the dealer but it will come back. I'm thinking that is why the last owner gave it up after just one year of ownership. That's what I would do....
Now to the good news for me, We have not paid for the van yet. I had to wait for the sale of my van to go through and it will be a few days before the funds clear the bank from the Cashier's check. We were going to finance a portion of the price through USAA but the dealer was not going to put that through until our cash payment was available which was supposed to be this Friday.
I'm thinking that I should be able to get out of this mostly by letting them know how unhappy I am with a trouble code the first day I have the vehicle. Without them having any of my money at all they don't have a way to hold my money hostage and try to make me purchase it or charge me a cancellation fee.
I guess my question is, does anybody know what the rights are for a buyer of a used vehicle at a dealership? I don't want a bunch of hassle. The van is really nice but I just have a bad feeling about it now....

I don't know about a used dealership, but I do know I had lost all faith in the vehicle I was buying. It had been back to the shop several times. But as soon as I said I had lost all faith in the vehicle they Manager was very helpful with everything.
I hope everything works out for you and your family.Cin

They aren't open today but I sent them an e-mail telling them my intentions. One other irritating thing is that it only came with one key. These new keys cost around $140.00 plus you have to pay the dealer to cut and program it for your vehicle.
I got it on e-bay at a local dealer and they have not closed the listing down yet so it's not like they will have to pay to relist it. I did get a great deal on it as I now see another one exactly like it with the same mileage for $5000.00 more. I still don't think I'm going to keep it.....

Mike, go to Carmax in Dulles right off 28 north of the airport. We bought my wife's car there and have never had a better experience. They don't haggle, BS, and have a no questions asked return policy. If you are set on a minivan, you can look at Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, etc all on the same lot.
We have/had, sold to daughter, 05 Chrysler Town and Country Limited that we have been very happy with. Water pump went out at a little over 36K but fixed under extended warrenty.
Also the key trick on, off, on, off, on works on the Chrysler and can read the codes, it is a lot faster that on the truck. Good luck on turning it back in.
We got the 05 new for the stow and go seats.. Had an 03 AWD but the seats were too difficult to remove.

Well, my wife decided today that she really does like it afterall and she wants to keep it. I'm going to try to get the dealer to buy me another key and also install the foglights they listed as being on the van. This thing has almost every option Chrysler offers and it is very nice for what we paid. We'll see how they act tomorrow when they call me....

Funny this thread should appear. The snow hit here yesterday and my wifes Volvo needed tires. I asked if she was sure she wanted to keep the car and I would go and put tires on it. She asked me to turn into the Chevy lot and to make a long story short, she ended up driving home an 04 Colorado crew cab. I was home doing my usual crawl all around the new vehicle thing and noticed that the high beam headlight bulbs were gone. Not burnt out, but not even present in the socket, just a wire connector dangling by an empty hole. This truck went past the "100 point inspection". Anyway, she loves her new truck and has missed having one since she got rid of her Tahoe a year ago.
The dealer is bending over backwards to make us happy. We are their first E-Bay customer and they need the feedback. My wife is now in love with the van so we will definitely keep it. I'm glad. I was tired of looking for a new vehicle for her while at the same time trying to sell the other one. I swear E-Bay makes life so easy sometimes.......
