Brokerage fees grrrr.

Anyways I just want to vent a bit. Whenever buying something off the net its almost always from the states. I live about 20minutes from the border. So I have the choice of either shipping to my house or to one of many companys down there that accept packages for you for a small fee(couple dollars) like The Mailbox.

The problem with going down to get anything, whenever I cross into the states I give them my passport and drivers liscense and am treated like a criminal, Park the truck go inside well we search your truck, Do you have any drugs on you and so on. I don't really like being treated like a criminal. Plus after the last time I went through my keyless entry didn't work so I look under the dash and four of the wires are pulled right out of the plug for the keyless module.

So fine I will not ever cross the border again. So I ordered the diesel power challenge dvd's and had them sent to my house, paid for the two movies and shipping and when they show up at the door $37 for brokerage fees. When I had my gauges shipped here it was $150 brokerage fees. Its like theres no way to win. O well I'm done now lol.

It ain't for the health care the brokerage goes to the shipper. Such as UPS, Fedex.
Have it shipped USPS ground and the brokerage fees are some what tolerable.

Ya I would but some of the company's dont offer a choice of how they ship stuff, They just use the same shipping company for everything to make it easier for them. And then if I do get it shipped usps it usually ends up stuck in custums for a month.

I am sorry our security bothers you but it has never been a bowel of cherries coming north either. I have had two trips and both times my rig was gone through. But I understand Canada wanting to check and its okay.

Well I am sorry for your aggrevation. But, I recently went on a fishing trip to Ontario and boy was I surprised at the limits for alcohol allowed to bring over the border!!!! How 'bout mite as well be none?!! So we go fishing and (I knew this before we went) we can only bring back into the states x # of fish at x # of size!!! BUT! At the duty free store at the border you are permitted to bring into the states from CA all of the crown you want!!!! Little strange to me??

However, I should not knock our neighboring country (up north). You people have got an absolutely BEAUTIFUL countryside and cannot wait to visit there again.. Sorry for the rant. Nothing personal.

I order from the States all the time, I only use USPS, the other fee`s are just too much, I just flew to Palm Springs and had no problem at all, we go accross the boarder at least twice a year, truck and trailer, on my Harley, and have never been searched, been doing this for closs to 45 years, and I have tattoo`s from my wrists to my shoulders, maybe I just got an honest face

Sorry, I wasn't trying to complain about the security. I just mean its not worth it to go through the border line and have my truck searched and what not just to go down and pickup some seat covers. I was just trying to say that the brokerage fees for the two movies cost as much as the two movies. I do try and just get stuff shipped usps but some companys don't give you that choice.

I'll have to agree about the border. It's been over 5 years since I last crossed into Canada but that was a breeze compared to coming back into the US. What a pain. Much as I enjoyed Canada and would like to go back again, I probably won't just because of the hassle of crossing back into the US. What a shame.

why the extra fees then? is it a distance thing or the p.i.t.a. of getting it through customs?

If you ship Fedex overnight there is no fees and for some reason I never get charged the GST this way No idea why that is but who cares.

They charge a fee to process the item through customs. The cost of the item determines how much they charge. Usually it is as much as the item costs, or very close to the cost of the item.
