On-board 12vdc Air Compressor

Has anyone got on-board 12VDC air?? plumbed to a tank??

I have been looking here:

www.oasismfg.com

I couldn't find a price for the HP1000 or ED2000.

I have also heard of VI-AIR, but know nothing about them.

I need something capable of airing up an occasional 18.4x38 rear tractor-tire.

I have a tank from a big truck that I intend to use.

Also, I sometimes change a trailer tire out on the road, on extended hauls; and, it would be nice to be able to inflate from my own source, rather than having to wait until I find an air source.

Thanks.

I have a viair setup, great little pump, only problem I am having is with checkvalves going bad, allowing the tank to blleed down rather quick causing extra cycles of charging the tank. Tank I have is 8.5 gallons and holds up well, I run 1/2 inch impact gun off it, its not quite shop air but a lot better than turning them by hand..... runs my train horn extremely well pics in gallery show the pump, tank.... locations.........

I've got a ViAir 460C plumbed into a 5gal tank...all it runs is my airbags, pretty much overkill

If I was gonna air up an 18.4-38, I'd look at some of ViAir's bigger models, and make sure you get a 100% Duty Cycle!! But, if you're on a slight budget, the 460C would do it with a big enough tank, but it wouldn't be fast!! Takes about 10 minutes to make 145psi with my 5 gal tank!

I see one has a 450C and the other a 460C.

What is the difference between the two??

For the compressor itself, what kind of money am I looking at??

Thanks.

I am using the extremeair from http://www.extremeoutback.com/index....id=1097106.740
It has worked great for me. Built a bracket and a basic enclosure and stuffed it under the pass side bed and the tank on the opposite side.

Do you have the regular size, or the junior??

I like the fact that they are not ashamed of their prices and put them right there where they can be seen.

Thanks.

I don't know the difference in the two, but the 460C is the newer one!

For a compressor and a pressure switch, you should be able to get one from ebay for less than $225 shipped...both of mine were!

One of our mechanics at work uses a 460C on a 120psi switch to keep his 100gal tank up on pressure when the gas compressor is not running...that way his airbags stay inflated, and he doesn't have to wait on pressure out in the field! Says it works awesome!

Another option....
Full Kit: http://www.kilbyenterprises.com/KE-3100-K.htm
Brackets: http://www.kilbyenterprises.com/KE-3100.htm

I plan on installing this, early next year. Though, I'll be buying the bracket kit & supplying a used compressor and tank for <1/2 the cost!

HTH

Those won't work on 12v engines...and Kilby said they have no way to make something work! I even offered to use mine as a test truck, but they say it can't be done safely...something about where the alt bracket hooks??

Can't remember, it was 2 years ago!

I've searched and searched for a good compressor. I like oasis but dear god it's expensive. One thing to look for is how many CFM @ like 90psi it puts out. Some will claim that they'll put out 3-5 CFM but they won't tell you at what PSI it is. Then you find out it's at 0 which doesn't do any good. I have found one on the Evil Bay that I've had my eye on for a while. It's a portable 12v unit with a tank(kinda small tank) They go for about 190 and it puts out 3 CFM @ 90 psi. Which is good to run a 3/8" impact. A tank will be needed to run a 1/2".

Anyone have suggestions on tanks?

There's some 6.5 gallon tanks on ebay now advertised as new and DOT approved for about $46 shipped.

I am not really sure what the going rate is...

OK no answer... went ahead and bought it. $46 for a new 6.5 gallon tank shipped seems decent. Couldn't find anything in that size for We'll see where to mount it up!!! I am thinking about where my spare tire used to be
