TU....I digress....

We have gone through more friggin toaster than I care to count. I don't think anyone makes a good toaster. Granted, we buy the cheap **** stuff. They get us by for a year or two then through them away

However, a toaster OVEN was given to us as a gift 2 years (?) ago. It worked wll at first. Now, the elements are fading.

The warden has her eyes on a $400 toaster oven . How do you make it stop?

It will probably be crap too. I can get the brand and such on that for you if you would like. - JKE

Forgot to tell you about the portable toaster..... it works good too.... It's 8 years old, gets used alot too..... I know you have one too... Instructions for use: wrap up bread in aluminum foil, place on exhaust manifold, drive up a large hill, stop, remove toast, enjoy.... just be careful not to park on the hill.... we wouldnt want to have any problems with concrete bedliners sliding out......

Whatever you do, don't get one of those glass-sided toasters from Black & Decker. They take twice as long, and don't toast any better than a normal toaster.

You need this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1264205.stm

Go to a restaurant supplie shop and look for a used 4 slice toastmaster they are 230 volt and can be rebuilt. I picked one for $90 I say used cuz they are like $800 new and will last for the rest of your life. I know this is over kill but I got sick of replacing kitchen appliances. I have all commercial appliances oven, canopener, coffee pot, microwave, blender, and a 230 volt toaster. No I do not own a restaurant just some of the tools.

I don't have any suggestions on brand when it comes to a toaster. I have one, generic brand with wide openings for bagels. It works well enough but truthfully we don't do alot of toast in this household, so it may not be a very good unit for everyday use.

But what I wanted to point out is that if you go with the wide slotted bagel toasters, they take a bit longer to make toast because the bread is farther from the elements. Just keep that in mind when looking at toasters.

Ed,
Seeing as how you own 2 Harleys, I assume you are a skilled wrench/craftsmen. Couldn't you fashion up a toaster out of heater grids from Cummins?

If possible, avoid ANYTHING with a microprocessor controller in it...
Household appliances sure last a lot longer with mechanical controls in them and they're cheaper in the long run.
Otherwise, one nearby lightning strike and you are throwing them all away .

Especially avoid toasters with the "Windoze XP compatible" stickers on the case.

It is my understanding that you don't need all that bread anyway, save the money
for more HD or Cummins toys.
