X2. My first one, very user friendly.

Only other experience is with the GPS mapping system in my work cars toughtbook, much harder to use on the fly.

I've got a Magellan Roadmate 1212 at work. We opened a new location in an area I was not familiar with, and the GPS has paid for itself many times over in time and fuel savings. The feature it has that I like most is route optimization, you enter the addresses you need to visit and it puts them in the most efficient order. It's very handy when you have to go to a bunch of places in a day and don't know where they are in relation to one another. Overall the unit is very easy to use, I still have not read the manual because the interface is so simple.

gramin has several programs that are helpful too. there is one thats a plug in to your web browser so you can find a location in google maps and send it to your GPS. Handy if your going to hit several places and dont want to search each one in the GPS.

My Mom's only complaint is that the Garmin dose not always give her the shortest route (guess she is getting to know Austin better than I thought). My friend has a Tom Tom, but it has sent her on a few wild goose chases.

I am kinda semi shopping for a Garmin unit myself. (I recenly bought a handheld model for hiking and ATVing recently off of Ebay for $67 and like it)

But now im looking for one to go in my truck. I am leaning toward the Garmin 255W. They seem to be going lately (at Radio Shack, Car Toys etc.) for about $250.00. Ebay...a little cheaper....but im not sure I want to buy this one on Ebay. I'd like to be able to return it if it isn't working properly...and on Ebay I think that would be hit or miss.

I guess my question is........is the Garmin 255W a good model...or should I look at one with more features. (in other words are the additional features on a "nicer" one worth the extra money). I like bargains....not necessarily "cheap".

and if the 255W is a good one (or please name another).....where do you suggest getting it? And/or should I wait a few months for the price to come down some more? It's no emergency for me to have one......i'd just like to have one.

Check out Amazon .com.....both my friend and I bought ours there and have had no problems. We both even bought a recondition one. Reconditions by the makers of the GPS's.....both look like new and work great.

Thanks Annabelle..........I may have to break down and buy this.

http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-255W-4-...tp_st_edpp_url

They have it for sale at $187.....or about $63.00 cheaper than anywhere else i've seen it. And this is for a brand new model.

I also noticed (on Amazon) that Garmin is coming out with a new line of GPSs on May 20th. They are taking pre-orders. I may just wait and see about them. IM sure the Nuvi 255W will still be available at the above price for a while.
