Battery Question.

I have no service batteries in my truck but want to add water. The only access I see is the little window that shows green when they are good It unscrews. Can you fill through it?

I thought 'maintenance free' meant they were sealed, no venting. Also meaning that even if the liquid 'boiled', it would condensate back into liquid and nothing could ever be lost.

Well here's a thought; I don't know about the green dot removal, but why not drill a hole over each cell so there's a way to fill them, then seal the holes with something like a rubber sink plug? I would have to assume there are still 6 individual cells and removing the green dot will likely only fill one of them.

maintenance free will boil down... the sides start to bulge. If your lucky, it blows a rupture disk instead of blowing sulfuric acid and water all over the place.

Might want to replace them at this point. Especially if it has been a few years since they were put in.

Some maintenance free batteries have the screw off/on caps(hid under a label) is this one of them?

If so were the plates covered with electrolyte?

If it looks low put some distilled water in the cells..You normally fill to the bottom of the fill hole tubes..

If they are only a year old, there should be some warranty left on them (until you start prying or drilling on the battery).

Exactly as 12 valve stated.

The green dot is an indicator for one cell only. It does not show the condition of the entire battery. Unfortunately once a battery has been subjected to extended overcharging (cooking), they are junk and can not be saved.
