Re:BAHRAIN?

Yeah, most people have never even heard of it. It just a tiny island...it's the only alcohol friendly country in the Gulf, which made for some wild times I suppose. ;D
Here's a pic of me and a Bahrain Defense Force guy ....I was an MP. Almost 10 years ago now...time flies :'(

Re:BAHRAIN?

Flew into Bahrain enroute to meet the USS Jason in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai - Abu Dabi). Probably the cleanest, richest looking airport you will ever see.

Hottest place on earth ... I hated it. Sure feel for the troops that have to wear MOPP gear in that heat.

PISTOL

Re:BAHRAIN?

During the clean-up (reloading the MPS ships) after the 1st Gulf War, the military had a cruise ship docked in Bahrain that they sent all of us to for R&R during our eight month rotation. It was actually more of a "booze" ship than a cruise ship, since that's about all anyone did. Getting there from Al Jubayl, Saudi Arabia was such a pain in the a$$ that it almost wasn't worth it...
Re:BAHRAIN?

Actually, Oman lets non-Muslim people bring in two bottles of booze, and they have bars in most of the hotels. I was working for Schluberger at the time (ptooey french), and our desert camp had no booze, but Halliburton had a bar in their camp across the street. ;D ;D

Re:BAHRAIN?

Spent a couple of fun filled days there during Desert Storm taking on Army helo's/ordnance. I also remember having the gas mask strapped onto my hip having dinner on the Booze ship.

It wasn't that hard to find a cold Beer in the gulf region. But then again, our two other port visits (2 days each) were in major ports. The locals drank too.

Re:BAHRAIN?

Whatever happened to the Seamen's Club in Jebel Ali ?? Is it still in operation ?

I remember the long walk from the pier to the club, getting there drenched in sweat looking at the swimming pool thinking how good that nice, cool water was gonna feel. Only to find out that it was hotter than most people like their bathwater to be :'( :'(. Formaldehyde beer headaches .... ummmm can't beat it.

PISTOL
