I had finals this week too. My calculator wouldn't work for my geometry exam. At first it wouldn't turn on and i got it to turn on then the = button didn't work, so i could type the problem in and couldn't press =. I think it was pay back for somthing. I just happened to be sitting next to an open window tha was 3 stories up, I couldn't help it. A quick look at the teacher and then a quick toss, a cuple seconds later it hit the ground with a smack. I went down after the exam to see what happened to it. Well it wored fine, couldn't belive it. It made me very mad, to think i just failed my exam because my calculator wouldn't work and my teacher wouldn't give me one. But what can I do, nothing. No point in being mad at it now.

We were not allowed to use calculators in school for exams. When I got to college, we could bring in one 3x5 notecard with whatever we could fit on both sides, nothing else. Later we were allowed to use a calculator, but the teacher and his assistants had the pins and beaming tools to wipe the memory of any brand scientific made at that time. Lots of sobbing and hyperventilating during finals....

For history we can biring a note card. But I dont see it helping much.

I find it hard to do squar roots and cubed roots when i have never been told how to do them. If anything the calculator is just a time saver for the other stuff.

Our physics teacher requires us to bring one.LOL He must be 75+ years old. Its funny how handy they can come in.

CHEATER!

Now a days teachers won't even let you into the classroom without the calculator, and on test days they have there little pets at the door clearing all of the memory out of them.

(One of my buddies is a wizard with programming the critters and he made a little dummy program that would make it look like the memory was cleared where it really wasn't...)

I don't think cheating is legally illegal; its just basis for failure and expulsion.
I've never had a need to cheat anyhow....

Once in High School somebody in class tried the one with the beer in a water bottle... Like that wasn't obvious...

Calculators make a lot of things possible that simply could not have been done by hand. At least they allow for students in Algebra II and Geometry to understand concepts and theories that would previously been inconcievable until Calculus. I've never met a math teacher who has said that calculators are handicaps.

We can still do a lot of stuff by hand to. The trick is to make sure you know why the calculator is doing what it's doing, not how it's doing what it's doing. If you have theory comprehension than the rest of it is easy.

The students in alg2/trig/physics usually can do most calculations in their head anyway. At least, they had better know what the answer may be, so they know if they are close to the correct answer.

BUT the people in the non-advanced classes should not be allowed to use a calc, IMHO. I teach developmental math at a JC and let me tell you, if you tell the students, just out of HS even, that "no calculators allowed" they get all bent out of shape. They couldn't pass the college level math placement test that's why they are in my class. What good is a calculator going to do them, if they blindly enter numbers any way!?

OH yea, about your back...lay on the floor, bring your knees to your chest and wrap your hands around them, gently. This stretches your back, and may give some relief
