Asphalt. Then the oil leaks don't show up so bad. Seriously though, as long as your contractor lays down a good base and uses at least 3" of asphalt, it'll last at least 25 years, more if you put sealer on it every couple of years.

Sure. Try to find someone to screed 3" of asphalt compacted. Use HL3 for your driveway. 2" compacted will be fine. Don't use any sealers. They don't seal the roads do they?? HL3 is roadway asphalt. Tougher. Put the extra $$$ you save into a trip or mods for your truck. JMO

Go for asphalt. IMHO I think concrete LOOKS like it ages faster from tire marks, oil, anything stains it. I think a nice thick layered asphalt driveway with the 45's on the edges looks pretty good.

Asphalt, "ALL" concrete cracks!...It also fades, stains and peels. A good asphalt lift will last longer, look better, blend better in repairs and can be quickly spruced up with easy to apply sealer. Oil enhances it, but a gas spill is disaster. IMHO, concrete is great for foundations, garage floors and other building projects, but it sucks as a driveway!!

Just remember, Asphalt and Diesel fuel don't mix.

That's why you only see concrete around the fuel pumps.

For fun, pour some Diesel on your favorite speed bump and see what happens.

here in wisconsin they assess taxes higher for concrete driveway and we are already one of the highest taxed states around.
I plan on a concrete pad in front of the shop future garage lean to then asphalt for the 100 or so feet of driveway

Oh, excellent! I'll be visiting the shopping mall w/ all the annoying speed bumps w/ a 55 gal drum of diesel fuel now!

Maybe when hoss's concrete cracks in the bed of his truck he could do an overlay of asphalt.
