Anyone know much about Fish?
After looking on craigslist for about a week I found a killer deal on a 104 gallon fish tank including everything but a stand(100$). I had to upgrade because my 40 gallon was way to small for my pacu and Oscar and large algae eater. I got the tank all set up and the fish are in it and fine but now that I have this HUGE 5 foot long two foot tall tank and I need at least 2 more fish to make it look right.
Now my problem is that I can't just buy any ordinary fish, my Oscar is about 9 inches long and the pacu is about a 10 inches long and both are very aggressive (even thought they say the pacu is a vegetarian, he definitely is not) so does anyone have any experience on what i can buy that i can just drop into my tank? or am i just out of luck? |
How about an Arowana? I had one for a while and they are cool fish. They are also an Amazon fish and can get pretty large.

The set-up is too perfect, gotta say it........ Put in a Great White Shark, that will cool their jets[laugh][laugh]......

I've got a 55g but much smaller fish, silver dollars, angels, danios and my black knife fish.
Check out http://fishprofiles.com good folks and they should be able to help. |
I second the Silver Arrowana. Beautiful animal, and will hold its own with the Oscar and Pacu. Large ones are expensive though, and make sure your cover is TIGHT. They LOVE to jump.
Another suggestion would be a red-tailed catfish. Also an Amazonian species, can easily hold its own with your others. Be warned, they get HUGE!!! Mine was well over 2' when I donated him to the local aquarium. Clown Knifes would be good too, but are African and you'd lose the theme. Dave |
The only thing I know about fish is they are best with a cold beer and fried and they really like that yellow popper I have on my fly rod.

(even thought they say the pacu is a vegetarian, he definitely is not) Piranha are cool fish, I used to have a school of nine. Watching the feeding frenzy was truly a sight to see! -Dave |

Red Belly Piranha. Thats exactly what I had, x9. Really cool fish!
|
Nothing like hooking a large mouth and the fight is on.

That red belly is sweet. BUT, would it terrorize my oscar and pacu? And isn't the pacu a direct relative to the red belly piranha? (even though they say he is a vegetarian)

That is definately a Pacu and what looks like a Tiger Oscar. Nice looking setup too! The Pacu is a cousin of the Piranha, and while they share similar habitats in the Amazon basin, I would not risk putting a Piranha in a tank with anything other than other Piranhas.
A Silver Arowana would be an excellent addition to your tank. |
I actually have been going to the pet store to look at the arowana, The store that I go to has a really knowledgeable owner (about reptiles, and somewhat about fish) and he said I need to find one that isn't a baby or the second I drop him in there he will be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Anyone have any suggestions or is that just not true
