Anyone into Geocaching?

Like the title says, is there anybody here who is into the Geocaching? I have been doing it since march of last year but have not been very active, I just found another one yesterday which was my first in several months. kind of forgot how fun it is to find them so I have the urge to get back out there.

My 9yo daughter likes it a lot. We placed two of our own and I have two more ready. She is excited again too.

I'm not into it, but someone around here is. And if I ever find them I'll wring their necks! They left a mess in one of my fields; 3 'scare crows', even had a phone number on them for the lucky finders to call, but the number just has a recording on it that it was reserved for a code number.

You can go to geocaching.com to read more about it.

Basically you use a GPS to find things placed in very odd, strange, funny, and just unbelievable places. They all have some type of log book to sign your user name and date on. The most popular ones have small trinkets in them for trading. If you take something, you need to leave something. They also have things called travel bugs, or travel coins that people find and move to another geocach and the original owner (and anybody else) can follow them around the country as it gets placed and then moved to a new location.

It can be very fun and at times very frustrating because people can be VERY creative when hiding these things!!!

Tried it once. Could find anything though. I left some scarecrows so I knew where I had looked and some jerk took them down and put a bunch of bear traps around. Some people!!!

I do it when I get bored on the weekends. There are usually ads on craigslist too, you can find a spot and swap artifacts or you can help transport one item across the world from geocache to geocache

I went geocaching sort of by accident...

I recently returned from a motorcycle trip through Canada and Alaska. I had a tire puncture up by Ross River, and after breaking the plug insertion tool I barely made it to Watson Lake.

When I fueled I noted one of the straps on my bag of camping gear came undone. I put it back and didn't think anything of it.

A bit down the road I realized my Spot satellite beacon had been attached to that strap....

Found a motel with internet (for $150) and in the morning 100+ miles of rough rock and mud road back to where it last pinged, but no soap.

Found a site in Nevada by accident while rockhounding (no GPS). I signed the log anyway and hid it back where I got it.
