Hey Drew- Have you checked out KTOG? Great discussion forums there. You will find that you can have almost as much fun modifying your Kel-Tec as you can bombing your Cummins. My P3AT probably wouldn't work too well if I hadn't found that site.

Those belt clips scare me. I like the safety of a IWB holster, it's a lot harder to get your finger on the trigger before you get the gun out of your pants when you use a holster. And shooting myself in that area is high on the list of things I would like to avoid doing.

Cool thing about a Kel-Tec, when you absolutely need to use it and it jams, misfires or whatever, you could always throw it at them. I bet that would scare someone off.
If you're gonna get a carry gun and have a cwp, you obviously have a need or desire to have the ability to defend yourself if something get's really ugly.
I'd buy a better weapon for sure.

The Kel-Tecs are good guns for tinkerers. That said, not all of them are pieces of crap out of the box. I think they do have a higher rate of problems, but look at the price. I bought a brand new S&W 686+ that was light striking out of the box, does that prove that S&W is crap?

My P3AT had some issues with sometimes failing to go completely into battery when I got it. The KTOG board provided me with the information I needed to make it work reliably. It would have been nice if Kel-Tec would have sent it out working properly in the first place, but I'm very happy with it now. It has not malfunctioned in over 200 rounds, so I believe in it enough to carry it. It's not my first choice, I carry it when I need a gun that can pass as a wallet in a pocket holster. Mostly I carry a S&W 342 PD in a IWB holster.

There is no way I'd carry ANY gun without putting several boxes of ammo through it to make sure it functions reliably. I don't care who made it or how much it costs. There is no equivalent to the P3AT, even if cost is no object no other .380 compares for size and weight.

I think, if you want a high quality gun for a low price, I would go with a CZ USA. CZ is trying to make a name for itself in the US market and since imports are difficult at best, they are having them made at a fine quality gun smith in the states and eating the extra cost to make a name for themselves.
Im not sure if this is true for the pistols too, but their rifles are sweet.
