The World was a better place because of your selflessness, now it is less of a place because of your absence.

From one Paratrooper to another, God speed my brother in arms your mission in now complete. Rest long deserved with peace of heart so richly earned.
We will continue the tradition with your supervision from a place we will soon all meet.

Reverently, Respectfully and eternally Grateful.
~
Tim,

Well said Tim. I hope you don't mind if I copy, modify and paste that. Keith

Hvytrkmech 01-11-2011 06:37 PM

I don't mind at all Keith.

I can watch that movie over and over. We lost a good one.

Tim, didn't know you were a paratrooper. Army goofed me out of 3 of my attempts to go, they had "other" plans for me.

Yeah I was in the 325th AIR, 82nd ABD. for 6 then did my IRR time in the 335th reserve for 2 years.

You must have been a baaad boy for them to goof you out of that. [laugh]

I am really surprised how few people commented in this thread. Especially with all the vets on this site.

One of my favorite documentaries of all times. Dick was one hell of a man. This series should be shown in every class room across America. Thanks for posting Tim.

Kept getting orders going back and forth overseas. I kept asking to go to light units with a lay-over in jump school. They kept sending me to heavy divisions. At least at Rucker, I got to train and work with C-509 Inf. Pathfinders, who also ran the Air Assault School there. I got in as an instructor and was next on the list for jump school (we traded slots with the airborne instructors), followed up by pathfinder, when I came up with orders for Germany again. I don't know who didn't like me, I did have a good time though.

Maj Winters was a true Soldiers Hero, **** few have been cut from the cloth he was. God Bless you Major and prayers for the family.

After reading about 59 of over 200 pages in Major Winters' guestbook, found this:

When the final taps is sounded and we lay aside life's cares,
And we do the last and gloried parade on heaven's shining stairs,
And the angels bid us welcome and the harps begin to play
We can draw a million canteen checks and spend them in a day.
It is then we'll hear St. Peter tell us loudly with a yell,
"Take a front seat, you soldier men, you've done your hitch in Hell."

SIR, rest in peace, SIR!
