I can get a very good deal on Cooper tires. Does anyone know the difference between the ST and the ST-C series? The -C is supposed to be a lot more cut and chip resistant. So does that mean that the tread is harder or softer? Also looking at the STT but it appears to be more of a mudder, therefore the life may not be as long. While I don't spend a lot of time off road, when I do it's usually in some nasty stuff (fresh plowed field or creek bottom).

Never tried ST, but I do like the AT. They're E-rated I've had them loaded down and plow snow with them.

 

I've used the STT once- will never buy it again. Terrible wear, hard to keep balanced and very bad traction on wet roads. My BF-Goodrich MT on snow feels the same as the STT on a wet road.
I used a Discoverer LT after the STT and was similarly disappointed.
I know that my driving style and the use of my vehicle must be considered as very different from the average use in the USA so take it for what it's worth. (I don't hink that you'll do regular 100 mph drives for hours, only slowing for the fuel stop)

EDIT: All tires were 255/85 R16 on stock steel rims

I can't tell you anything about the -C but I've been running the Cooper Discoverer AT Load range E (235/85R16) on my '92 now for 50K+ and have been reasonably happy with them. They're not the best in wet ground but I blame that on my truck being a long wheel base, 2wd, diesel. If it's soft, I don't go there or I know that I'll end up stuck there. (Found that out by burying the truck to the rims one time. The front had settled less than 2" but that was enough to stick me.) I expect to get at least 60K out of these tires and they won't be bald when I take them off. (I think that they were rated for 50K.)

Used to run the STT or it's equivalent back in the '80s on a 2wd Ford F250 gasser out on the farm and you just about couldn't stick that truck with those tires on it. Possibly one of the best mud tires out there IMO but not great for the hiway. Lots of swing and sway when running with a heavy load. I'll be needing a pair of tires before winter hits and I'm thinking that I'll either go back with the ATs or go to Michelins. Saw some at Sears the other day on sale for about $25 more than the AT was the other year but then the price on the AT has probably changed too.

 

I'm looking at ~$500 for the ST's in a 265/75/16 10 ply and ~$600 for the ST-C's. It's a couple hundred cheaper than any other place I've looked.
