Alaska's Even Free-er Now

I understand from the GOA (http://www.gunowners.org) that Alaska has now signed into law a free carry law for concealed firearms. All I can say is "HOORAY!" , and "Congratulations Alaskans".

Quote from GOA newsletter:

(Friday, June 27, 2003) -- Gun control proponents are continuing to lose key battles across the country, as citizens in a growing number of states can now carry firearms concealed.

The most significant victory occurred recently in the Land of the Midnight Sun, where citizens don't need concealed carry permits anymore.

Alaska's governor signed a bill this month modeled after the famous Vermont law, which allows citizens to carry firearms concealed without first getting screened or fingerprinted.

No fees. No waiting periods. No invasive background checks. No requirement to be fingerprinted like common sex offenders.

Citizens can now carry freely in most places in Alaska without first getting a state-issued permit.
We're a little more liberated here, but they liberate your wallet when you get the permit.

Re:Alaska's Even Free-er Now

The way to make your state's law like the one in Alaska is to get politically active. The reason gun control went as far as it did (and has) is because the intolerant whiners were, for a long time, the main vocal constituents that lawmakers were hearing from. Thanks to the NRA, the CCRKBA, and many others, more of us started becoming more vocal (in the workplace where ideology is spread, and in letters to our congressmen) to ensure OUR voices were also heard. We have made notable progress, but need to keep the pressure on to continue undoing the damage to our rights that the mainstream media and others have done. Congratulation and job well done to Alaskans!

Good one, Ed. That's the way it should have been.

I like that cartoon. One of the first things I thought about after 9-11 was the little old Texas granny who threw down on the robber at Wal-Mart a few years ago. Too bad we didn't have a few of those tough ladies on those planes. My great-grandma was a police matron here in Kansas City many years ago, but I saw her just shoot the lights out with her .38 when she was in her 80's. They wouldn't have wanted to tangle with her.

Darwin Award candidate.

From WJLA news

Fredericksburg, Va. (AP) - Fredericksburg police report that a 17-year-old boy showed up at the Mary Washington hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound to his "whosis"*.

Officer Jim Shelhorse says the Woodbridge boy got the hospital early Sunday morning but wouldn't talk to police or hospital personnel about what happened to him. Police don't know how or where the incident occurred.

It's not clear how serious the boy's injuries are. Mary Washington Hospital does not disclose patient information

This is why "Mexican Carry" is a bad idea.
<not a racial comment>

To the unititiated 'Mexican Carry" is carrying the gun in your waistband without a holster.
